In the years I've had RX-7s, I've had 3 motors go --and its always the rear rotor. Has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just my dumb luck? Are their higher loads on the rear rotor apex seals for some reason?

 

yes there is more load on the rear rotor. more so for tii's i believe. I have blown 3 na engines. 1 was just plain worn out. the second killed rotor1 with a bad oil injector. third was rotor1 due to detonation. (appaerntly i was given the wrong timing pulley, and couldnt get it to time right) i dont think my experience has been the norm tho.

Yeah..n/a's are pretty hard to detonate, unless you do something way off..

The rears usually do go.. like, 90% of the time. There was a post about it before the big hack, and everyone but one person said that the rear went out on them. Something about a longer path for the oil to get in.. I assume they mean, the injected oil.

I finally tore my recently blown NA motor apart a couple weeks ago. An apex seal was stuck on the front rotor. But what caused that seems to be a major oiling/bearing problem on that rotor bearing. It was trashed and the e-shaft galley was clogged with bearing material. The motor was fresh so the people that built it (no names) either built a dirty motor, used a bad bearing, or didn't clearance it right. Anyway, looks like the rotor got so hot it seized the apex seal in the groove. Nothing else was broken excpet for the bearing.

I recently blew an apex seal on the rear rotor... turboII not sure why it blew, maybe just age of motor.

 

I bought an 87 Sport one time that had a cracked apex on the front rotor.

 

the rear runs hotter than the front, more prone to detonate.

 

I BLEW APEX SEALS ON THE FRONT ROTOR WHAT WOULD CAUSE THAT?
