blowing smoke..will it start on fire?

well im almost positive my oil seals are shot, and its pouring out smoke. is it possible for there to be a fire in the engine bay?? some smoke comes from over where the turbo is.
the reason why i ask is i just bought the car and the guy said he bought it from someone that thought the engine was blown, but he found the turbo was bad and was leaking oil everywhere. he put in a good turbo, and never put the rest of the car back together. i spent a couple hours putting it back together, and started it up and its blowing smoke. i want to drive around for a few minutes to further diagnose it to see if it is in fact an oil seal. but i dont want to start the car on fire and ruin what good i have.

a new turbo will have an oily residue on it that needs to burn off, all the excess oil in the exhaust also will need to burn off so i doubt you will have any issues but have a fire extinguisher handy just in case.

it smoked alot and i ran it for a min maybe then shut it off. i started it back up and it didnt seem to smoke very much at all, then started to smoke alot worse. i ran it for about 2 more minutes and it just kept smoking, drove it about a total of a 1/4 of a mile and shut it off again. how long would it take to burn all the oil out of the system like the exhaust and such? does it sound like an oil seal to you guys? it smokes pretty damn good. i got happy when it didnt smoke for about 10 seconds when i started it the second time, then it started and smashed my hopes....lol

if it was fixed the smoke would get progressively better, it sounds like either you have a faulty rebuilt turbo or the internal engine oil seals are done.
