Bleeding brake lines question

i was just bleeding my brake lines about 20mins ago and i started with the right rear first. i made sure the res was full w/brake fluid, hooked up some rubber tubing to the bleeder valve and stuck the other end in a cup of brake fluid. then proceded to losen the valve and have my friend pump the brake pedal 2/3's the way in slowly. now after about 2minutes of doing this on the right rear the air bubbles went away and my friend said the brakes were getting stiffer. then i moved on to the left rear, now this one was going about the same till there were no more bubbles then the last time he pressed the brakes alot of bubbles came out..and now do with everytime he presses the brakes. they had been getting stiffer till that happened and now its back to how it was before when i had no brakes at all (being able to push it to the floor with ease).
my question is am i doing something wrong? or do i have a leak somewere or something

thanks,
Russ

Are you bleeding the brakes because you did brake work? Or just for the heck of it?

You did not let the master cyl drain did you?

Sounds like you let part of the brake master cylinder resevoir drain down too far. You do know that the resevoir separates part way down so that if the front or rear brakes brake a line, you don't lose all of your braking ability? So, while it may look filled, from a quick glance, it likely is not.
(This is the same reason why you don't need to bleed all four brakes if you only work on the front or the back).
Keep the brake fluid topped up and try it again. You'll need to rebleed both the rear brakes again.
