Do i really need to keep the black padding that goes under my hood do you guys know what i'm talking about?

The black nasty crap that is connected to our hoods

That's for heat shielding right? I was wondering if I could take it off. Any negative effects?

the paint on your hood will get screwed up from the heat.

My suggestion would be to rip it out and install some other type of heat shielding, thus preserving paint and cleaning up the engine bay.
