Unhappy black magic fan on TII

I just put a black magic fan on my car this past weekend. I noticed that my temp gague would usually stay around 1/2 with the stock fan. After I put this fan on, my temp gauge has gone around 3/4 the way up if not more. I was wondering if I should be worried about this. Did I mount the fan wrong? I know it is supposed to be a puller fan, so I put the spongy surface on the radiator with the fan pointing towards the engine.
I had to adjust the brackets a little bit, so that my battery could still fit. Maybe it isn't tight enough on the radiator?

Other things that I did, was to take the stock shroud and fan off. I placed the thermostat for the black magic right under the stock radiator hose that goes from the top of the radiator to the engine. I also cut the cap that covers the front of the fans thermo in half, so that I could put it on the end. I was wondering if I don't cover the end enough, cool air can hit the end of the thermo to make the fan shut off at higher speeds.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks

At higher speeds you don't need the fan on, you will have enough flow, so no I don't think that would make a difference.

I would be looking to see if the fan is wired and drawing air the correct way. Its possible you have the thermostat for the fan in the wrong place as you mention, but I would be more looking at the air flow through the fan/ rad

how about the thermostat adjustment? Mine is set at almost at the lowest setting. Even with an old leaky rad the temp never went over half with the black magic fan.

Unhappy

I made sure to turn the thermostat down all the way. I also made sure it was pulling the right way.
I noticed that while highway/interstate driving the temp goes up pretty high. But when I stop or slow down, the fan must be kicking in and the temp gauge goes under half. So the fan seems to be working, but not at higher speeds.
I am starting to think that since I didn't put the cap on the end of the thermo, that the cooler air is hitting the end and sending the signal that the car is cool. Making the fan not turn on at higher speeds when more cool air is hitting the thermo. Is this a good guess?
What could I use to put on the end of the thermo since I messed up the plastic cap that came with it?

Talking

Boy do I fell dumb.
I had the ground and positive hooked up wrong. So I guess the fan was spinning the wrong way. Now it works great.
My temp has stayed around 1/3 to 1/2 most of the time now if not lower.

TII using electric fan

Has anyone had any luck using an elctric fan with a front mount IC? I had one installed and the temp gauge went past 3/4 at stand still and 3/4 on freeway. The fan is rated at 2200 CFM.
It runs fine with the stock shroud and fan. Which are you guys using?

I tried using the HKS FMIC with the Black Magic fan and I experienced te same thing, overheating. I took it off and went back to stock and the temps are around 175F driving normal and about 195F on the track (which is where it spends all of it's time now)

i just put a black magic fan on my 84 gsl-se and my temp always stays on 1/4 to 1/3 way up just like the stock fan kept it. i used the shroud that came mounted to the black magic fan and pressed it tight against the rad. the thermostat bulb should be as close as possible to the rad. so it can tell when the rad is heating up and turn on your fan.
i just installed a complete rb rr exhaust system, black magic fan kit and the electric 5/6 port mod this past week and all 3 systems are working excellent.
i am on a roll(knock on wood)

one thing i notice is the fan does draw some current from my electrical system when i am stopped and idling so i would suggest getting the largest output alt. you can afford.
i have a 100amp fd alt. on its way here right now. im sure it will correct the low amp prob just fine
