Bizarre whine...

OK, my car whines... The faster I go, the higher pitched it becomes... I know it is always there when the clutch is engaged, I'm not sure if it goes away with the clutch in or not... I am thinking it is either the differential, the throw out bearing or the pilot bearing... Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Check your supercharger J/k Those three things you mention are all possible. Check your belts thats an easy check.

It's definitely NOT my belts... It's a constant whine, and it seems to come from under the seats, not from the engine compartment... How did you know I had a supercharger? (Actually, I have three, they feed off each other...) j/k

Under the seats aaaa. Have you jacked the car up and (put jack stands under it) turned the car on. If you have someone to help you can put it in gear and rev it up a little to try to find it. It's hard to diagnose without being there. I would try investigating further unless you all ready have. Good luck.

Btw three superchargers dammm! That would explain the whine. hehehe

You're right on the money with your diagnosis. My guess would center around Throwout bearing.

First Give it a good service make sure all your oil levels are good, if it persists get it on a 4 arm ramp and get some one sat in it going through the gears (whilst running) then just stand under it and you should be able to hear where its coming from.

Ok does it make the noise whilst not moving or is it quiet then gets louder the faster u go? the genral rule is if the cars stoped the only parts moving is the engine and the Box so it will be one off those, if it happens whilst moving it will be any thing from the prop shaft back (Prop shaft,Diff,Drive, wheel bearings).

my car does that, it makes a "whirring" sound when i drive or am in neutral without pressing the clutch. if i press the clutch it goes away. someone said it was a pilot bearing or throwout bearing.

Transmission bearings are wearing out. Time to rebuild. Rebuilt mine last year.
