Can you explain "staking"?..is it like a lip on the hole of the driveshaft or the cup of the U joint?.
Looks like everyone else beat me to it, but like as been said staking is displacing metal in the bore of the yoke to sit against the cup and prevent it from coming out. Rather than using clips like on your replaceable kind. This thread is one of the ones I referenced when I did mine as it has some pictures. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...joints-517657/ . Since I don't have a press I just used a dremel and a grinding stone IIRC to grind off the staking.

Back to the original problem. I had no added vibration while this noise was going on until the very end I finally got some "normal" u-joint symptoms. I probably drove 6 months with various noises as they seemed to vary and sometimes have no noise at all.

Is this directed at me? I don't see the start of a pissing match, I didn't disagree with you.

Not really, there were some diverging thoughts and I thought I might be stirring the pot, no worries. Maybe I should have just said stirring the pot instead of pissing match, my bad.

..stirring pot..?
CHILI?...I'm hungry man!..lol!
..and pissing match?..I win!..I'm old!, I pee alot!.,.,shuddap!...ah crap..!

Ya,I sort of thought the cups would be tacked or something.I never really looked at the stock drive shaft closely to tell you the truth.

My next question would be that if it was staked before and then you replace it with cups and C clips.Do you have to make grooves for the clips or are they already in the Driveshaft U joint holes?

There are flats on the backside of the yoke already. That is where the C-clips go and rest against those flats. They end up on the inside of the cups rather than the outside in grooves in the holes like alot of non staked shafts.
