big big idle problems

yesterday i did a CC flush on my car.. worked great, except my car idles at 1200 rpm!... so today i tried a 2 light TPS adjust on my 87 na.

to start off.. my variable resistor is shot.. i trued to adjust tps except now its a rougher idle at 1100... and sometimes it goes down to 800 and stays... i have no idea whats up... throttle linkages? bad MAF sensor?

oh yea and the TPS adjust didnt work.. im trying to get a multimeter for a half hour to do it the "other way" basically when i tried to adjust.. one light would be on, but the other wouldnt light unless i tapped the throttle or something.. i have my BAC (on the top of the manifold) all the way closed as much as the screw will go.. still idles high..

any thoughts please?

next morning update... idle still jumps.. car lugs when below 2k rpm at any gear... its weird.. sometimes the idle will be at a solid 1200, then itll be at 800 and bounce... the TPS seems to be showing a signal, but i think its failing b/c it doesnt always seem to kick in.. idk guys.. i also noticed that it takes just a slight touch of the throttle to change the idle speed between the 1200 and the 800..

Ok the first thing you have to do is drive the car until it fully warms up.Get a multimeter to check and calibrate the tps to 1000 ohm. Also check to see if tps goes from 500 ohms to about 5000 ohms smoothly with no dead spots.Usually if the tps is out of adjustment the variable resistor will not work because it only operates on the correct rpm(idle) range. And clean the tps with electronics cleaner (radio shack) just in case its dirty and sticky.

oh by the way I almost forgot.Look to see if the throttle cable is not to tight on the throttle linkages.

How do you know your variable resistor is shot? Did you jumper the ISC connector? Were the adjustments made under 1000 RPMs?
