better tranny (from another car) into my 7
what will fit? i heard a miata will, but do you have to mod anything? and how would its lifespan compare? any suggestions would be great

I dont want to give you a fictatous answer on that. I would say no. But I believe the inner gears are interchangable. Just not the bell housings. Again I could be wrong.

I've been told an FD tranny isin't any tougher than a TII (FC) tranny. I don't think its a worthwhile mod, no improvement and its probably not a bolt on.
A 6 speed Miata tranny doesn't sound like a bad idea though.

if any of you had fully read the artical, she used the interals to change the gear ratios, but it doesnt not add a 6th gear, and is about as strong as a NA tranny as stated above.

The miata.net garage section (I was going to leave a link but I couldnt make it work) said that mazda has two transmissions, a non-turbo 5-speed and a turbo 5-speed. The miata and the RX-7 (FC) have different gear ratios the MX-5 has the gears for more top speed and the FC has gears for acceleration. The rearend on a 90-93 miata is 4.3:1, the RX-7 4.1:1 (I think) however it is the weak link in the miata drivetrain, most people with big horsepower in a miata are either very good at fixing diffs or have one from a RX-7.

actually you may go faster by leaving you transmission alone. some people with NA miatas who have put the NB miata 6-speed in have reported that they go slower scince they have to shift more.

The Miata transmission is not "better".
The FD trans will not "drop in" - the input shaft is shorter, and even though you swap the bell housings, it will still not work.
The FD trans internals are basically the same as an S5 turbo trans.
