better bang for my buck???

im looking into a 86 or 87 rx-7 turbo. i have on small problem, well make it two, 1.finding a turbo rx-7 in my area and 2. the cost. so this is my gamr plan, i found an 86 non-turbo manual for 400 bucks but the engine doesnt run. So i thought just buy a turbo engine and drop it in there. Do you think this is the better way to go or should i just keep looking for a rx7 with a turbo already? all input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

if you're gonna buy a non turbo and put a turbo engine in it, there's alot more involved than just doing that. you'll need an engine from a 87-88 turbo 7. you'll need the respective ecu, air flow meter, boost sensor, and knock control box. you'll need to upgrade your fuel pump and maybe put in a race clutch, unless you're gonna convert the non turbo drivetrain to a turbo drivetrain. if you're gonna install everything yourself that will save you some money, but if your gonna pay someone to do it, you might as well buy a turbo rx7, because by the time you pay somebody to do all that work, you could have bought a nice turbo 2. you'll also need a turbo 2 hood if you convert the non turbo unless you go with a front mount intercooler which gets into some $.
