Best way to find a Turbo II

Hey everyone, I am new to the board, and RX7s in general. I am selling my WRX and want to buy a TII.... NOW...or within the next month or two at the most. I know they are hard to find, and I have been searching all the classifides, and have also talked to local Mazda dealer service departments in order to find one. Does anyone else have any suggestions? It doesnt have to be in great condition. I plan on a new engine, turbo, Haltec, fuel system, tranny, body kit(and paint), seats, ect... basically anything that needs replaced. I would like one that is currently driveable though and within 4 hours of Maryland in any direction. Thanks for any help.

PS: I have a buddy who has one, is completly rebuilding his, and knows how to tune a Haltec.....so I know what I am getting into.

Rick

K Here is what you can do: Sell the WRX and get the RS, same car but with some minor motifications can be faster than a WRX by some not a lot of Hp. Afterwards take that 10-15k and invest in a FC if you like them, like me or an FD. I would say that you could find a nice TII 94 for around 16k so you would be set there. If you were gona take the FC route, which I would go with a series 5 car (89+) and just do what you are planning to do with it. Now you have two cars around the same Hp, roughly, I am not sure how much that stuff will boost your Hp since I run an N/a. The Impreza RS are pretty crazy cars and they are fairly cheap at around 19k. So you would have a very reliable car and a car that would be fun and fast and you would be set if one gets smacked or one just doesn't start in the morning.

Man, I'm in Rocky Mount, NC and theres' an '87 T2 for sale in Winston-Salem, 3hrs west of here and approximately 4-5hrs from you. Now I know that this is a long distance BUT the girl wants $1800 for the car and it has like 100-105k miles on it and YOU CAN DRIVE IT HOME. Run a search on autotrader.com for 87-91 rx7's from area code 27801 with a radius of 200 mi. and set the price from $1000-$3000 and check it out; it's the white one listed in Winston-Salem.

Well,I am definately staying away from the Subarus, and a big point of getting the FC is to save money, and I only need one car.

I will definately check out that car in Winston-Salem, I found one there a week ago and it was in too bad of shape, this one sounds nice though. Thanks!!!

My suggestion would be pray! Granted you have more money to shell out than I did, but to find one that isn't trashed one way or another is a bloody miracle. Good luck, I never did find one I was comfortable buying.

sometimes you just have to get lucky and have one fall on your lap. Know someone that knows someone that might sell, etc.

Just be aware that 89-91 TIIs command more of a premium then the 87-88's. It's also worth paying a bit over bluebook for a mint low-mileage example. These cars are at least 11 years old and finding one in immaculate shape is a hard task indeed.

RIXREX,

Hey welcome to the forum.

Check out www.thepartstrader.com , www.ebay.com , and www.autotrader.com

Note I've noticed the autotrader mags in your corner store gas station seem to have a better selection than the online site.

If you're just looking for "any TII" - you should be able to find one pretty quick. The 89-91 years are a bit harder to find as is the 10th Aniversary Turbo II (1988). The 87-88 TIIs are a bit more plentiful these days.

Any other questions??

hey thanks guys!!! I will check out the parts trader asap. I came so close to getting one yesterday, it almost fell in my lap. It was at a dealer only auction, an 87 turbo with 90 k miles, excellent condition. I finally tracked down the owner on his phone, but he ended up selling it moments later for $3K. I have also been searching auto trader and the classifides on a daily basis.

T2Monster....Where is that car listed!!! I cant find it. Sounds great and I'd like to check it out. Do you have a phone # for me to call? Thanks bud.
