there isnt a "best" turbo, atleat not one that everyone will agree on. any medium frame ball bearing turbo will get you that amount of power, and a quick spool.
your going to need bigger injectors though. 550's and 720's wont hold much past 340 safely. i believe my setup ( stock and 720's) maxed at around 330bhp.

i know theres no "best turbo" since it all depends on what your doing with the car. i forgot to add that i mostly want to auto-x this car. i know 400hp is a bit much for auto-x but w.e. Im actually thinking of going with a stage 2 BNR which should be good for 330ish whp. anyone who has any stage bnr, does it spool quickly? i assume it does, and are there any other turbos that would be recommended for auto-x that make about 350 wheel? dont really care about price right now, just throw names out there please!

bnr turbos are a bit laggy actually. Stage 4 made a bit of 400 at 15psi and spooled by 4k i believe...

have you considered a 60-1 turbo? check out the timeslips/dyno section. id search for you, but im doing my homework right now. haha

If you want good spool you will want a good a divided stainless manifold (preferably with a ball bearing turbo like the GT35R), which go for around $1000 from companies like A-spec. The 60-1 turbo (either a T04 or the hybrid BNR stage 4) can also do 400 but you are less likely. You need to spend some time in the Single Turbo subforum.

For that power level you are also going to want a standalone and at least 1600 cc secondary injectors.

Your optimal turbo is going to depend on alot of factors. If price is no issue then go BB and get onto a custom manifold. Then as far as turbo choice is, you can get the latest turbos, that will fit your application taking into account what your motor can flow.

If you are looking at BNR, then you are still on a stock manifold. BNR will do the job, and do it well, but hybrids have drawbacks, foremost being lag. When I was on the BNR stage 4, it was laggy, but now that I am on a big turbo, its laggy too however my application is drag, so I can overcome.

BNR turbos aren't too bad. Stage 2 and 3 spool around 3.5k and the stage 4 spool around 4k if you crank up the psi on them.

Like most people have said, theirs a lot of factors involved. Price, compatibility, your craftsmanship or wallet for custom parts for whatever turbo you upgrade to.

Really, it all depends on how much time you want to spend on this car and what you want it to do. For Auto-x'ing, I'd recommend a smaller turbo (bigger than stock of course). On the other hand, for drag, I'd recommend a large turbo. The lag time increases, but the stronger powerbands make up for it. The lag time could hurt you bad in auto-x'ing.

well i have never been a big HP fan espeacially for auto x. but i do know your car is your car, i cant change your mind. also your supporting mods can determine your turbo, what type of track (low-mid-high speed), at what rpm do you want the full 400hp to kick in. also your budget plays a big role. but the sake of discussion. i have never gone wrong with garrett turbos. so a gt35 or gt40 BB. can get you there. it all depends on what you want to do with the car. because you can also go with a 300-325hp range with squeeze (nos) which others do not like, but its for sake of ideas. and you can put the 400hp down when you need it, say like a mid or highspeed track streight aways. thus running cooler, cleaner, and momentarily, thus being (with proper tuning) less destructive on your engine. like the others said, there really is no best turbo. just proven setups for different applications. i think one the other guys said to check out the other similar threads. those should help in your research. find someone the is doin the same race you are or simliar setup. save your money, racing is expensive, learn from others mistakes and benifit from their findings= saving money.
