Best rx7 setup for under 3000

Hey i have an 86 rx7 non turbo im looking for the best setup to go turbo and make it reliable for under 3000 im doin research n tryin to set the car up to make around 260hp and make it reliable at that horsepower but would be the best way to go for power and handling and not spend over 3000 or 3500 dollar range. im really tryin to spend under 2500 so i can do some cosmetic work and brake work heres a pic.

Nice color, champagne = win

I have looked into it as well and it's probably going to run you pretty far over the 3k mark, unless you get some awesome sauce deals on just about everything. I could be wrong though

your best bet is to buy a TII. i have seen them for $1500. or you could swap a 13bt i have put $20,000+in to my swap from na to TII. its a good thing money grows on trees. what do you plan on doing with your seven?

Sell what you have, and buy a stock Turbo II in good shape. Much better starting point.

13b-t = TII motor

TII is already a single turbo

I'll have to do some research on all of that because to be honest I'm not that knowledgable, some other people might be able to answer your questions sooner. I'll do what I can as quickly as I can, ok?

There's SO much I would do to that car before swapping in a turbo.... SO much.

*5-lug TII rear end
*5-lug front TII front parts
*TII Transmission/flywheel/clutch/driveshaft
*Nice koyo (or something) radiator that'll support the heat you'll want to make.
*Suspension
*Put the other side of your body kit on?
*Tires (those look pretty tired)
*New bushings, etc.
*.....and more!....

Use search...best feature on this site IMO. There's someone that has run into either the same problem or who has wanted to know the same thing at LEAST once in the past.

Yes I dont see 20,000 $ yet.. thats 9600 (including 3 motors... ??? O.o) and people should just do what I do... find a T2 that got in an front end accident. Take the engine, drive train, ECU maf and stuff all for 1000$ or less. Get a 150$ clutch and your off. Or better yet, run turbo 6 port like I am now. :P

Walbro isnt needed (and might overpower the stock FPR causing you to run rich), the t2 or FD pump is perfect and cheap - got mine for 25$
720 injectors arnt needed either.... and will make you run rich if you are using the stock t2 ECU....
the koyo is nice but not needed either ...

I and think its just stupid to pay atkins anything let alone 3800$ for an engine haha

So why did you need an new car with a JDM swap AND a new motor?

If you spent 20k on changing your NA to t2, you need to add some extra chlorine to your family gene pool.... You could buy a perfect FD for that haha

wheels tires
safcII
3" from the turbo back
tein ra's
and when you add shop fees
making a safe and fun rx 7 can cost you lots of money if you have time to do all the work and wait for good prices on the parts you need it can done cheap.
how did you do your swap for $1000 did you just swap the motor?

.... did you read?

I just took everything out of the t2 ...and put it in the NA body.... how is that hard to understand?

from the rear end to the pressure sensor... everything

If you are someone that just pays out the butt and does NONE of your own work then I guess you could spend 20,000$ .... but hey next time u need to swap let me know I will only charge you $18,000 and I will have it done in 3 days....

takes me about 3 hours to change an engine alone now days...

btw $5000 wheels? hehe what does that have to do with the swap?

my idea of the best thing you could do with 3000 would be two options

if you really want a turbo do the swap stated above - find a wrecked turbo car
1000
misc money fixing things (like injectors maybe getting the turbo rebuilt ) - 1000

$1000 on suspension and be happy

You wont be able to get coil overs but u could get a nice set of struts and springs ... and MAKE SURE you replace all your bushing and get rid of the DTSS

OR if you want to stick NA u could spend a lot more on suspension and possibly save the 1000$ for a rebuild kit if your engine ever goes.

You could just do turbo NA without needing the whole car but I really think its easier to get the whole car then just get the parts you need. Also you would have an NA tranny and those things are weak (went through a bunch of them myself)

i wish i had $5000 wheels or maybe just $5000 in tools to do all my own work. maybe if i had a hill to jack my car up or a tree with a thick branch to pull my motor out like you i could find a $1000 car with who knows how many miles on it and duct tape it up and rock out. you might be ok with stock replacements and tired parts. i buy the best i can afford. if that means i have to work and someone else puts my parts on im good with that. i also like knowing that i wont have to go through the same parts again and again. how many times do you have to put junk motors in your car until you get it down to 3 hours?

I am a drifter, so way to many. But any average person would still have my first t2 motor. :P

anyways there are much better things you could have done for your money but that will have to be talked about another day.

I can and am proud of what I have put together.

*coughs* I'm being a complete nitpicker for saying this but... TII was S4, Turbo was S5. I may be wrong on this, but if I recall correctly the TII/T2 denotion was for the twin scroll design of the S4 turbo. The S5s did away with it in favor of a split manifold and was no longer referred to as a twin scroll, even though it still has two scrolls...

Calling them all TIIs is just easier.

Congratulations, with this statement alone you have voided your entire argument and many more for the future.

If you are doing a swap with a built engine and a big turbo, EMS + tons of supporting mods and not using used\junkyard parts, and looking to make big power than $20k can be surpassed VERY fast.

You most certainly are. All USDM S4\S5 turbo cars were "TurboII" cars. They all had the sticker on the fender. In Japan the S4\S5 turbo cars were not called Turbo II.
