you will pay the same price everywhere, but I just replaced mine again ( damm 10 years go by fast ) in my vert and ordered it from Mazdatrix. You may want to spend a little more and buy both boots too.

one thing I highly recommend is getting the lower shifter bushing from MMR

http://www.mmr-direct.net/store/defa...r-bushing.html

I bought the $50 bushing from mazdatrix, only to find out that it looks like you would have to drop the transmission to replace it. The MMR bushing is a simple drop in affair.

my old lower bushing had completely liquefied, there was nothing left, I replaced that bushing and it solved my problems (I had already checked all my other bushings)

I dont know what bushing you are changing, but the 2 bushings for the shifter definitly do not require you to drop the transmission, that is just crazy talk

there is a third bushing where the very bottom of the shifter (the small ball) meets the gear selector. It doesn't require you to drop the transmission unless you get the OEM part.

it can be if you get the bushing from MMR, but that comes as the whole assembly from mazda (that actual bushing part is just that whitish yellow part and you can't really get it out easily, I tried). the bottom circle is where the gear selector shaft goes through which is held in by a pin. from what I gathered after taking off the side plate to the shifter area, you need to hit it with a punch or something to get that pin out and you don't have enough room in there to do that without dropping the transmission.

As far as the very bottom bushing goes, punch out the old white bushing (it it's still there) and make your own. Safe yourself the money and hassle.

If you have to replace the one in the last picture- then you have a hard time.

Just trying to help him out if he ever has to replace it. Happened to me; I replaced all the other bushings and it still didn't fix the problem until I dealt with the bottom one. Nobody ever talks about the bottom one, and that's the one that made the biggest difference.

Im lucky in that I never had to do the bottom one, but the last time I ordered bushings I was looking at that one and thought to get it, its expensive so I figured why not try the simple cheaper ones first and see what happens.

the one from MMR is only $12 with free shipping, so I don't think it's worth the hassle of making your own. And it's made out of delrin *fancy*

The mazdatrix pic. above shows how the bushing has openings near the bottom. A good pick set will yank it out. The small ball below the big one of the shifter acts on this. Used on the S5's. The rattling is common on some aftermarket shifters, but can happen on factory ones with worn bushings or springs. On both sides of the big ball you should have (going closest to farthest) bushing, washer spring.

all that stuff was replaced I think when I got my short shifter. I do have a related question. What do I do about the shifter bolts threading all the way down but wont tighten due to being stripped out? Only one of three bolts is tightening down properly. I just found this out when I replaced the rubber boot under the shifter
