Best LSD for drifting/roadracing
I am ripping into my subframe to replace a few things and since it is such a pain in the *** to take it out I am consider changing the LSD as well. Which OEM LSD, clutch type or viscous? I am looking for predictablity and longevity is always nice, but like always you cannot get both.
If memory serves me correctly the Viscous will last longer (generally don't wear out) as long as the fluid is keep in good order. And it has a smoother engagement....... equals more predictablity??
So as for the clutch, it locks up almost immediatly...... harsh engagement.... less predictable? Isn't the clutch type better for drag racing?
Since the Clutch type wears out overtime, does athat make the Viscous better because of the ease of engagement and longevity?
I assume all TII LSD's are 1 way?

Clutch type for drifting. Almost all racing teams use clutch type. Most consistant clutch made. YOu can adjust the engagement time to suit your needs. That means you drag racers.
Viscous is slower. Viscuous LSD is stock on the second gen (if it has it). If your just starting to drift there is no reason to replace your VLSD, your just starting. :P wate till Joo getz bettah! :P
Clutch is the best, and is by far the cheepest to 'upadate'. Torsen can bite my ***, and has to be rebuilt becaus the gears in the LSD get JAMMED against the shell of the diff. (I'm sorry, thats just the way I feel torson lovers.)

Clutch is not better for drifting as it will resist slipping as much as possible before breaking lose, clutch is better for a roadrace track setup, viscous is better for drifting because it will allow a bit of slip before it engages which will make drifting easier to control. I agree that clutch is the best setup overall but for drifting viscous is the way to go.

Yeah , I have a S4 and it seems like it is almost perfect, so I am not sure If I should rebuild it, get a viscous off of my freind, or buy an aftermarket one.
The only reason for not choosing the latter is because how damn expensive they are. Plus I will be just be starting to drift/roadrace my car. Whats better for starting out?

Where da **** are you getting that from? Vicous LSD is no good for drifting. Clutch type LSD is way to go. You can't even do consistant 360s with VLSD!
