Best Clutch for Street use???
I'm rebuilding my 10th AE and I want to know the best clutch setup to use for street, keep in mind I don't want to have to rev engine super high to take off...
My setup is...
Streetported motor
Lightened Flywheel
Series V intake
550 Primaries
1600 Secondaries
T04R
TIAL Wastegate
TIAL BOV

Centerforce clutch
Clutch pedal effort, extra clamping......go with centerforce. To get same cllamping strength you'll need to get a pressure plate with a stronger diaphram, thus more pedal effort.
You're in Huntington Beach...... go to Rotary Reliability/Fast Freddies on Harbor near Warner. See Nick. You'll get a clutch education, and probably walk out with a Centerforce.

ACT - Advanced Clutch Technology. My car is VERY streetable.
I have heard more negative comments on Centerforce than anything good. A buddy locally had Centerforce on his GTU and told me it's garbage.
He's also not the only person to tell me that - over the 5 1/2 years that I've been driving FC's and attending forums I have read enough to see that the majority do not favor Centerforce.

I was thinking more along the lines of an ACT clutch....
They have a pretty impressive reputation for being newer to the market than Centerforce....
What are some of the benefits for the ACT clutch????

I have the ACT street/strip clutch in my car right now. It holds up great. I just dynoed 355 rwhp. Just pulled the clutch out yesterday and it looks brand new. If you want a stronger clutch for some reason, get the ACT sprung 6-puck... that's what I'm going to be trying this winter... we'll see how that goes.

My car will be hitting about 425HP....
The car is going to have the lighted steel flywheel...
What is best for that power range and configuration???
Would the ACT 6 puck be easy to drive in traffic???

Marketing bullshit?
Um, Blake my friend. Take it easy, bro.
You're missing the design point. The centrifugal force causes the weights to pull on the diaphram. Thus increasing the pressure to the clutch disc.
This as an alternative to stronger diaphram spring arms you mentioned which result in more pedal effort. However, I will give that stronger spring arms gives you the extra pressure at any rpm, compared to Centerforce only as RPM increases.
But, the question was for DAILY driving. So, friendly clutch pedal effort would sway the choice to Center Force in this case. My opinion, but shared by many.
Ultimately, its personal choice. I switched from a Street/Strip to Centerforce as there is alot of stop and go here in La La land.

I had the CFDF and replaced it with the ACT street clutch set. I'm very pleased. For me, it feels better. Much firmer action. I don't have much more power than stock for the time being, but it has yet to slip (except when I botch a shift). It's all subjective, but my money is on the ACT.

CENTERFORCE SUCKS ***!!!!! especially for RX7's. Ive heard so many horror stories with that clutch and the rex......
go with the best, ACT. get the extreme pressure plate, it's a little stiff, but you will get used to it and love it to death.
Later guys

Yea you hav heard horror stories, Every company has em, CenterForce has just been around a hell of alot longer than ACT has therfore making the horror stories seem more.
Just the same principal if one of our cars blows, All rexes are unreliable, becasue we have a 1 to 300,000 ratio to boingers therefor it makes us look more like a mass in comparison.
I had the ACT Race Clutch in my car and it was great, but it had its issues, didnt like it if I slipped it, it would definitly mneed to be cooled down or it would slip more. 2nd to 5th gear shifts (accidental) really tended to smoke the ACT, literally. But when it was cool it was great.
Oh and I forgot, if you drive on it for more than 16 hours at 85+mph it will stick to the flywheel... Happened to me by the time I got from VA to Utah...
Both comapanies have good and bad qualities, you really need to talk with shops that install or specialize in them... www.corksport.com (Centerforce) and www.rx7.com (ACT or ACT cobranded Clutches)
For about $300 you get an ACT (or Co brand) Street/Strip clutch, which is a full disk and hold 30% over the stock Clutch
For about $255 you can get a Centerforce Dual Friction (www.nopi.com) which is also a full disk with mixed materials for better grabbing power which is 90% over stock.
If you go with an ACT 6 Puck you will look at about $400-450
