What the **** are you talking about? Did you READ what I quoted? I quoted someone that was saying give up on N/A and just do a Turbo swap... What in the **** does that have to do with a "13b street ported holley intake"??? I was saying I'm getting sick and tired of the mentality of 90% of this board where any time anyone that's n/a wants power they say give up and go Turbo or do a TII swap.

don't get me wrong a lot more horsepower is fun but there is a place for the "lowly" N/A and I happen to like to know that when I go for a drive my car will get me back home and the N/A community seems to always get back home to run again.

Just a few casual observations....T2 guys, flame away..........
I would tend to echo this statement. Yes, a TII can make more power. Yes, a modded TII can push down absurd amounts of power. And, yes, a TII has a LOT more things to go wrong.

Reasons, in no particular order, I like my NA:
I can run cheap fuel in the tank. No need for premium (though in Iowa, 87 is more expensive than 89... but at least it's pure gas, no ethanol).
I really don't have to worry about detonation. I'm sure it's possible to detonate a NA, but it's difficult. I can street tune my SAFC and not worry about blowing my engine up.
Response. I hit the throttle, it goes. Yes, the whole "Hit throttle, wait, BWAAAAAAH!" aspect of turbos is fun, but I like my lack of lag.
Ease of working on things. The engine bay in a NA is significantly less cramped. I can get to pretty much everything without having to take much else out.

That said, I'm planning a turbo swap in a project car (once I actually pick it up). I'm planning to stiffen it up, lighten it, and put down some serious power. But, it's not going to be a daily driver.

yeah if you plan to mod a rx7 sell the NA and just spend another 1-2k on a turbo 2. Then mod that to your wallets content. Modding a NA is like a dog chasing its tail. All that work and thousands spend and you find out you have a whopping 30 more hp.

"I'm getting really ******* sick and tired of this mentality"

dDUB why are you getting tired of this mentality. A young forum member asked for honest advise and I gave him some with real world expectations. To get streetable hp you need forced induction on a rotary unless you add more rotors but like i said before "real world".

Well if he is just looking for something fun to drive, a modded N/A is always fun. Not extreamly fast.. but not slow either. My N/A FC will keep up with stock T2 and slightly modded T2.. And it Always seems to do better in corners then T2.. guess its the added weight of the T2 drivetrain and turbo.

ok.....to put it in perspective....i have a t2...lots of fun....fast as ****..but i also have driven a NA......its just as much fun...just in a different way......and honestly...i want to own a NA.....no lag....engine has alot of get up and go feeling....not like the t2's ehh...i'll wait abit before scaring the **** out of u.....there are NAs out there making ~200 ish thats as fast as a t2.....but how much power do u eventually want?.....300-400 HP isnt possible unless u want to own a race car or turboing it...but if u want something thats fun to drive and wont give u 15mpg...then i'd go with the NA......with all the gas price hikes.....god...i want to own a NA!!!!

so yeah....buy the 7 and welcome to the club...

Oh... and regarding MPG, I'm working on some magic to get my NA consistently running 30+mpg. I think it's doable.

1Revvin7 used to get 30MPG off his using a Haltech on hismodded/streetported T2. FYI.

But anyhow onto the NA vs Turbo idea. Buying and modifying a TII is a little bit more expensive, for each "big mod" you'll need a seconary mod to run it safely (bigger turbo = FMIC, Radiator, injectors, possibly a Haltech and so on). An NA though, you can get away with alot more for generally cheaper, and its easier to take care of if anything goes wrong, since alot less can go wrong (if that makes any sense). Its all about what the individual wants. I want to be blown personally. Its slow at first yet, but when its start to blow you, its a feeling that I love. Go with what you like personally, its all a matter of perference.

(Don't let people tell you what to do, you'll just get confused and do alot of crazy mindswitching).

Best bang for your buck: SAFC tuned, true duals, Pinneaple racing sleeves. What the guys above mean by "get a TURBO" is that you reach a HP max fairly quickly. Once you have done all the bolt ons and tuning you will have at most 200rwhp (a high estimate).....then you can port the motor to squeeze more HP out of it....but when you are done with that you will have spend a shitload of cash on a car that is honestly SLOW by todays standards....if you have the money you can carb the NA, or Supercharge it......but in the end you will be blowing a shitload of cash for nothing. With the turbo motor it is easier to reach high HP.....example:

injectors: 150 x 4= 600 bux
Fuel Pump: 200 bux
BNR Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade: 650 bux
SAFC and AVCR= ~700 bux
HP=~350rwhp.......
(does not include all the other small things like fuel pressure regulator, wideband etc. for maintenance and tuning)

how much yould you spend on carbing the NA? the SC kits are 2-3K and that does not include the custom work to fit....then you have to get the same things as the turbo upgrade; injectors, pump and controllers etc. etc.

It's not like we turbo guys are ******** and hate NA's but the fact that the NA has limited potential is the reason most people say GO TURBO.......

I have driven an 88 GXL, a 90 GTU, an 89 TII and my current GTUs Turbo.........with that said: GO TURBO...

the comment about the turbo blown in the yard and the NA runs fine: If you had taken care of your car and taken all the precaustions to avoid overheating, detonation and regular maintenance YOU would not have blown the motor.......the car is only as good as the driver.....if you do not maintain it, and you abuse it it will break faster. look, just because I think you should look ahead:
get the 86 NA and get it running right.....do a RacingBeat catback, suspension, intake, and weight redux...then just drive the car......save your $$$ and when you feel that you WANT more power then do a turbo swap....and you can use the intake, exhaust and suspension that you already HAVE.....

You will have much more fun with your car if you do all your suspension upgrades first. trust me. i made the mistake of not doing that first and really regret it. just having a nice suspension set up makes your car a bit faster and a hella lot faster in the corners.

I can also smoke regular mustangs, integras, civic si's,celica's,eclipses...Mind you these are new cars not old ones like my car.God if i had a 75 shot or something id be hauling !!!Well plan on porting your uim and lim when you do your exshuast, and intake, you will love it!
Heres all the mods ive heard of so far for a na.

PORT UIM AND LIM
HEADER
EXSHUAST
INTAKE
TB MOD
STREETPORT
PORTED TB
PINNAPAL SLEEVES
REMOVE PS AND AC
RACE WIRES
REMOVE SPARE TIRE
ALUMINUM HOOD
STREETSTRIP CLUTCH
LSD(YOU HAVE ONE)
50-75 SHOT(WET)

I'd say get whatever car you can afford right now and worry about making it faster later. I'm looking for a Tii just because I like how the turbo feels and it's something different that what I've had before. I don't need a race car, and if I did an rx probably wouldn't be it. I just like the looks and the fact that it's different.

you can make anything fast, I've seen a turbo festiva do a 11sec 1/4 and a n/a geo storm do a 12sec 1/4. The festy cost about $5000 after all mods and got 45mpg.
