1989-1991 TII for horse power, 1989-90 GTUs for handling. The TII has 202 hp stock, and the GTUs runs the 100 meter slolam 2 seconds faster than the TII, and pulls more G's on the skid pad.

TheBigOne,

Hey welecome to the forum.

Lots of choices on the second generation RX-7s:

89-91 Turbo II - supercar - handles 450+HP
89+ GTU-S, 1987 sport - non turbo racing models
GXL - Luxury model
any 2+2 edition - 4 seats
CONVERTIBLE - best convertible ever made, great for TurboII swap

Looks? '89 convertible
N/A performance? '89 GTUs
Turbo? T-II, it doesn't matter if it's S4 or S5, but the S5's look better, IMO

The Infini IV, specially adjusted suspension, lighter BBS wheels, special seats, more power (about 215hp) etc. and basically taking everything that made the Turbo II so great and improving upon it.

if the infini IV was availible in the US, i would pick that..but since it is not I would easily say the GTUs hands down.

91 convertible. Have you seen a sweeter, quieter, more graceful car? I have one and she handles incredibly well, pulls all the way to the 8K redline, and cruises with the top down better than any other convertible made. Speed is great, but until you have spent a summer driving in a 91 vert, you do not know what true love is.

At least in my opinion.

it depends, they all have their pluses
89-91 t2: its the fastest stock, it modifies really well
86-88 t2: lighter than the 89's plus it doesn't have the damn seatbelts
86-90 sport/gtu/gtus: lightest/best balanced
88-92 vert: they are cool cruisers

86-87 sport is the same as the 88 GTU except the 88 GTU comes with a LSD rear which is almost the same as the 89-90 GTUs. They all are shooting for the same concept, lightweight with the stiffer shocks, springs, bigger brakes. The GTUs goes one farther with a slightly shorter rear end and 16" wheels.

GTUs are significantly heavier than sport packages (2600-2800lbs). The reason is that all RX-7 gained weight in 89-91. HP is up too, from 146hp to 160hp, gained hp offsets weight gain.

GTUs runs the 100 meter salom 2 sec faster than a TII? Not a chance... 88ft/sec =60 mph. 100m is nearly the same as 100 yr = 300 ft. Do the rest of the math. Where do people get this stuff?

Also the 88 GTU is NOT to be confused withe the 89 and up GTU.

88 GTU had Turbo II suspension and LSD.
89+ GTU was trhe previous Base model with 15" rims.
Thats why there is a GTUs which ws the 88 GTU with the newer TII suspnesion and that 4.3 LSD

I believe almso tall 89+ cars had aluminum hoods, not sure on that.

I dont realy knwo the diff betweent he Sprot and the GTU, I've heard diff things.

Any one know for sure??
