Question Beside the oil pressure sending unit, 1 wire

I'm putting a rebuilt 86 engine in my 88. There's a little device beside the oil pressure sending unit that has a single wire on it. The 86 has a larger hole, and the one out of my 88 won't fit. Does anyone know what it is? I'm wondering if it's something I need to buy? Thanks

The temp comes from the coolant doesn't it?

Yep, its the sender for the temp gauge. And yes, the 86-87 (and maybe 88) cars have a differnet sized sender. I just discovered that after tryiung to switch out my 87 unit into the s5 motor I switch in. I broke the damn s5 unit so now I cant even splice on the right plug. Oh well, the engines probably fucked anyway.
Does anyone know if the 88 sender will work with the s4 harness but fit int he s5 engine? I know that my harness has a different connector from the s5, so I'm just wondering hwo to make it work.
