I assume you mean an "Optima" battery? I'd stay away from Optimas at the moment. A few years ago their quality control went down the toilet. I hear it's getting better, or at least has been getting better over the past year or so. Still, I'd spend my money on something that I could count on. That said, both Deka and Exide make some fine batteries. The Deka Intimidator has been proven to be reliable.

This is a little frightening. There's no mention of a circuit breaker or fuse, and shoving the cable through the condenser hole is a sure way to make it abrade and short in a few years time.

well i got a hole with a gromit on it thur the fire wall i have a 4 gauge wire ran and i have a fuse there with the wiring so you are saying i should add a fuse there? also all my boys have optimum batteries and none of them have had any problems. matter of fact two of my boys has two of them in there cars, they both have major systems in there car so they run those batteries. now that i think about it my dad and my brother both have them too! so i want on. and i want to put in an FD altenator in my car which brings me to another topic i am going to make a new post about it and search about beefing up my altenator in my s4. can it be done? i have a shop where they do nothing but altenators and starters think i can beef up my alt to maybe 100amps if not more?

I got away with using 4AWG to my relocated battery.

2AWG is best, but don't go below 4AWG.

ok kool because i have the 4awg already ran from the front to the back! now here is a crazy question my boy just suggested to me. Running two batteries one in the stock and one in the bin has anyone done that? or should i just run one battery in the back? i am tring to free up some room at that same time in the engine bay so i figure just one battery in the rear would be good right?

For the love of god, it's not "optimum" it's "Optima". Use Optima if you want. In most applications, they will do fine.

4 gauge is the minimum. 2 gauge and thicker is recommend as mentioned above. You absolutely need a fuse or circuit breaker on the positive cable as physically close to the battery as possible.

To get the cable through the firewall, you either need to use a grommit as the stock wiring harness does, or use a passthrough. The A/C grommits were never designed to allow wires to passthrough and can eventually tear and allow the wire to rub against the sharp edge of the cutout.

There's no reason for you to run more then one battery unless you spend a lot of time with your "system" on while the car is shut off. If that's the case then you need to look at a deep cycle battery such as the Optima Yellow Top. If you intend to run two batteries, there are many ways to do it. The simplest and cheapest way is to connect them in parallel. Of course you need the appropriate fuse in the positive connection.

Normally people relocated their battery to the passenger side storage bin.

thanks for the heads up but i never said i was going to go thur the a/c i have a wire ran already thur the fire wall but it is a 4 awg it was professionally done. so running the wire is not the problem! i am not planning on running my system with the car off i just want a stronger battery and something i can put in that doesn't let out gases! also i have a 100 amp fuse on there so i can use that but that is what i wanted to know. but i can see if i can get some 2awg wire and run it! o yeah thanks for the correction on the "Optima" no wonder i couldn't find anything..lol but i did get on optimum..sorry if that angered you so you can have the love of God back!

Yellow Pages - > Welding Supplies

Don't waste money on "audio" cable.

Used 2AWG here and optima still holds a strong charge after burping it so many times this year. Untill I see anything better for the price I'm sticking with my 2 yellows. Street Max this year baby!!!
