Everything will fit just fine. The easiest way to change out the wheels and differential is to just drop the entire rear suspension sub-assembly (with or without shocks), and swap it as a unit. That way you don't have to deal with replacing the hubs, halfshafts, etc. The steering rack isn't too difficult to replace, but are you sure you want to replace it? The manual rack is far superior to the power rack. The only advantage in the power rack is for people with very little upper body strength who parallel park often.
See the service manual for procedures. (The 88 and 87 models are over 99% the same).

you are going to have a problem with the wiring of the PS pump...the plugs for the pump won't be there...I had a base but I have been adding parts to it to upgrade it...so far I didn't have plugs for PS, power windows, PW locks, security...I don't even have a sunroof... I now have Power windows, going to add aftermarket security system w/PW locks, and adding PS...I am converting my S4 base to a decked out S5 TII w/13B-RE--as my sig says...
