I am definitely going to be baking the next set I do. It's not much harder with the hairdryer and if done correctly, it doesn't hurt a thing. From what I have gathered, baking them will ease the process of pulling them apart with a lesser chance of cracking or completely annihilating them.

NjJay, the turn signals (corner lenses) are amber and the tail/brake light are red. This goes for the car in your picture and every other set of stock s5 tails.

Everyone, leave him alone because we all know that the FD and FC are completely different in every way and there is nothing remotely similar about the two. We all know that the FD came with a v12 Chevy motor with 6 cam shafts and 2 roto--turbos. So everyone just back off him because he's new with FC's.

BTW, Take a joke and welcome to the FC world where the proud, cheap <--(not always, but mostly), hard-working, and flame suit wearing crew lives, but get that v8 bullshit the **** outta here. That's nonsense and redundant. The RX7 came with no pistons on purpose. It wasn't an accident, nor was it a computer typo. ROTARY FTW!!

yeah i took that as a joke....love the rotary motors....theyre awesome...
still would like to see a ls1 fc...just for ***** n giggles...but if any of my cars
were to get an lsx motor it would be my 86 camaro...the rotary is staying that...
as for this mod anyone have any pics of the tails or front turns

edit: im out in the trenton area....and i have experience with the 13b tt motors, i assume the turbo ii motor is
essentially the same motor with single turbo and less hp, as long as the internals of the housing are the same
im good

Those hypons are the motor code, not useless letters. There are differences between the 13bt and the 13b-REW, same as there are differences between the 13b and the Renesis (RX8 motor). You got 12A, 13b, 13bt, 13b-RE, 13b-REW, 20btt, and isn't there a 20b-RE? As far as 20b's go, I'm not sure of all the different models. Correct me if I'm misinformed, but I'm pretty sure I got it nailed other than the Renesis. I haven't gotten into details on the RX8 yet as they are not an FC.

And these are the first set I ever did on my old 90 GTU that are now on the 88 GXL I'm buying.

i am familiar with the engine code and denominations, some keys on my keyboard don't work...which is why you'll see me type fd, or fc instead of rx7 because my x key isnt there and i have to stab some keys with a toothpick...its a pain in the *** but hey, thats what happens when you have a five year old

thanks for the pics...they remind me of the japanese style fd lights

I have found after doing about 30 sets over the past several years, and with my particular oven, 200F and 10 minutes is all that's necessary. Just make sure there is NO metal touching any part of the lens face because it WILL melt. You don't want to get into the business of plastic repair--although if you HAVE to, the plastic of the removable diffusers is already formed in the correct shape for repairing chips easily...

The X seems to work now doesn't it? Just kidding.

Whenever I've got some spare time, I'm baking my old S4 lights just to **** with them and get the hang of it before I tear into the S5 ones.

hmmm, would it be worth the risk to take them apart just to clean them?
I think mine would look better without dead insects

I just took apart 2 S5 VERT tail light sets, those only have 3 of the small screws. S4 VERT tails probably have 3 as well.

Why do you have dead insects on your tail lights? Do you drive in reverse?

The engine code for the 20b is 20B-REW. No tt or -RE. The W stands for tWin turbo. They dropped the W from the Cosmo 13B-RE even though it was a twin turbo because it had different ports & manifolds than the FD's 13b-rew.

I'll be tossing my tails in the oven tonight. I'll post pics later.

I don't know man... I got them like that, but there are not many or big insects, just a few very tiny ones, and the inside isn't perfect clean...so that's why I was asking

Getting them apart using an oven works well, but getting them back together I found works better with a heat gun.

I dunno man. I just put a set back together using the oven. It was pure cake. Just position the lense on the light on top of the glue and put the lights on a pan like before for the same amount of time. When you pull them out place them on a counter top and using oven mit covered hands gently apply firm but even pressure around the lense and it just sinks back into place like it was before.

Oven all the way.

Did you pull diffusers out of your s4 tail lights, RRTEC, or did you just replace all the plastic with new red plastic? I know you were doing a write-up on this, or documenting it, but don't see it now...
