baking tail lights

I don't want to. That's why I would like to ask, what is the recommended degree and time for pulling tail lights apart. The hair-dryer method is too much work and has a high probability of braking edges, so I would rather put them in a pan in the oven, but I don't want to end having to eat them because that's all they're good for.

i'm told 215 degrees pre-heated, and then let the lights sit for 10-15 minuets is a good solution. but try at your own risk.

Ok I set the oven to 250 degrees and let it preheat. I then put the lense on the a pan and closed the oven door. I let it sit for 9 minutes, it pulled easily apart with the assistance of a flat head scredriver.

yah dont be too scared.. some prying is needed.. but not too much or you could damage soemthing.. just the right ammount.. yah thats it.. ohhh yah.. feels goo... oh wait nvm... lol

^lmao, wtf.

I've done 3 taillights by now and it was cake, 250 degrees preheat and let them bake for 8 minutes. To make the process quicker remove the 4 small screws from the back before putting them in the oven. Apply force gently and give it time, don't rush it if it doesn't come apart quickly. Give it some time and pry it off gently. Just make sure when using a screwdriver to be careful not to pry against the lens itself because it'll bend easily when hot. I didn't even use a pan I just threw them in there lol. Pics:

Well, I went ahead and used the trusty old hairdryer again. This isn't the first time I have done tail lights. I was unsure about the oven, but I think I'll give it a try next time. I have another set I'm doing maybe tomorrow or some time soon. Thanks for the uber rapid responses though. I seriously posted this this morning before my buddy picked me up to go ad do his tail lights and now there's a bajillion posts. Good save. BTW, the next set will be my third set. 2 down and beautiful. I tried it on my GTU first, broke some of the black off of the corner enses, but nothing super glue didn't fix. This time I tried a new look and left the corner lenses in. It doesn't look bad. I'll get some pics of it soon. Thinking about maybe throwing some tint on the inside of one of he three sets. Oh BTW, I was donated a set of s4's from Arconus after he put his set of s5's on so I'm going to be doing some crazy shit to them........or end up braking them in the process. Stay tuned.

If you would use the oven you wouldn't chip them.... Bite the bullet, do it right...

Bama420 02-23-08 09:45 AM

easy, there is no right and wrong way to "destroy" a manufactured production. I chipped them because I was inexperienced and had no clue how they were designed/came apart. Now I know. It's not like I'm complaining, I'm asking for exact details. I was answered and then I added my own stories and ideas to my own thread. So don't try to shun me. And there's nothing wrong with using a hairdryer. It just takes a bit longer. I got a pair knocked out in 20 minutes yesterday and I uninstalled and reinstalled them on the car as I went. (And played Forza 2 a bit)

RRTEC 02-23-08 10:03 AM

Not shuning you..... i just always choose to work smart, not hard.....

On the S5's if you remove the diffusers inside the taillight it changes the look and some people prefer it over stock.

NjJay 02-23-08 12:33 PM

how come the lights on my 91 fc vert is red all the way across and not orange? anyone have a compare and contrast of what these lights look light before and after the lenses are gutted

totallimmortal 02-23-08 12:39 PM

NjJay you got a pic of what your talkin about? not to piss anyone off but i think your buch better off with the oven, much more even heat and no risk of overheating one area, I think i'll do something with my sf4 tails soon, also been considering doing up another pair of front markers, my first ones turned out great but some idiot backed into my car and broke one
