Bad alternator + overheating?

Ok, I was just driving down the street this morning and all of my idiot lights came on, so I'm like ahh crap the alternator, but I kept driving for a bit until I could safely pull over, and then I noticed my temp. guage started rising, so I pulled over IMMEDIATELY. It never actually overheated, but it would have. So all of my idiot lights came on plus I am overheating, but this car has NEVER even thought about overheating, it runs perfectly cool. And yes, the alt. belt didnt snap, and I made sure its tight. Can anyone help me out? I gotta have this thing running by monday!

I would suspect a slipping belt. Is the belt tension correct? Does the belt or pulley look glazed or smell a bit like burnt rubber?

Could any of the other belts cause this? Because I made sure the alt. belt was tight enough. It *was* a little loose at first, but I tightened it and the same thing still.

Anyone know? I am taking my alt. to get tested today, but the overheating is weird, it happened at exactly the same time, and its never happened before.

Do you still have the air pump on? If you took it out are you running a dual alternator pulley?
