is this bad?

I need to pull my cats off to get a replacement pipe made, and I'm wondering if it would be bad to drive my car for a couple of miles running just off the manifold.

Do you mean bad as in going deaf, or bad as in getting pulled over by the authorities? You know it's going to be loud, but I'm sure you can stand it for a couple of miles. Just try to avoid the cops.

snoogins!

A couple of miles shouldn't be too bad on the motor, but your ears will bleed. Be prepared to be deaf for a little while. Keep the RPM's as low as you can, and you MIGHT not get pulled over by a cop.

right on, I was just wondering about damage (not to my ears) and if I got pulled over it would be funny 'cause I could show them the cats that I "could" put back on to be legal.

A couple of weeks ago I ran into some guys at a parts store that was doing that w/ their Rex....when he started it, I was thinking, "wow, not that loud"...and then he followed me out about 2 miles....once he got over 3500 RPMs (I was driving the same year NA at the time)...I couldn't hear my car, my radio, nothing...just his loudness!

it is real cool at first but then it just gets annoying. but I still liked every time I rolled passed someone they would stare

I drove around on the freeway with just a header on. I dont think your car will be as loud as mine. Everyone on the freeway gave me dirty looks hehe. It was great! The whole car vibrated like crazy. I passed some cops too but I pressed in the clutch as soon as I was getting next to them. My neighbors dint like me for those 2 days.

i was at some solo 2 races a few weeks ago, and someone with an MR2 had their exhaust come off the manifold. i was talking to another rx7 owner, at the other end of the lot, but when that car floored it, we couldnt hear each other even if we yelled. even when the car was about 2 blocks away from us. i'm quite sure that a 13B rotary engine would be a lot louder than the MR2 engine. so if you have to do it, dont go WOT at 7000 rpms. if there were any cats or small dogs around your car, i think their heads would explode.

I drove mine with the whole exhaust (collector and all) off. I rigged a temperory heat shield to deflect the blast downward and drove very gently to the muffler shop, except for one time I was behind a guy on a Harley. I just had to punch the gas to watch his head spin around - small mistake - I melted the plastic straps on the wheelhouse.
