Hi,
The valve spring is behind the allen screw on the end of the BAC. Don't remove it, there's nothing under there you'll need to do. Also, the screw is made of fiber, and you can just as easily strip the allen socket with very little pressure - i've done it.
Anyway, To clean the BAC valve, you'll have to remove it. It's pretty easy. Just drain some coolant first, because there is a coolant flow-through on it.
I'd be surprised if it is a problem because of dirt. The orifice is pretty large.
To adjust it, there is a screw on the side under a "blind plug". The Haynes manual has a pretty good dwg of it on page 47 Figure 25.6 which shows where the adjuster is.
I don't think that a turbo bac on a n/a is a problem. It's just a valve which is opened by the ECU for a few milliseconds at a time to fine tune air flow into the intake. That said, I don't think it's very easy to put one on a n/a, since the coolant flow tube is reversed on the outlet side.
If you suspect the BAC is a problem, there is a very simple check. Remove it and put an ohm meter on. The resistance should be 10.7 to 12.3 ohms. If it reads okay, put 12volts across the contacts and see if the valve operates. You can see the armature move when you apply the current.
If both of these tests pass, it's not your problem
If it doesn't pass, I have a couple of good ones in my partspile I can fix you up with.

It might not be. How are the coolant tubes arranged? On the turbo model, they are in line - coolant flows through in a straight line. On the n/a, the outlet tube bends back in reverse - the coolant flows in, turns around and comes back out in the same direction.
I'm not aware of any adjustment for the n/a application. On a TII (my rx) the adjuster under the blind plug is used to set the idle. On a n/a the (functionally) same adjustment is done on top of the TB.

I would turn it in until it is just snug against the seat - no additional pressure.
