ok i had the rear struts in my car replaced at pepboys because i dont have a place or the tools availible to do it my self right now and i really needed them done. but after they did it on the passanger side the the strut top isnt sitting on top of the tower but slightly above it.

i found this at fc3s.org: "Make sure that if you are using new boots on your rear shocks that you re-use themetal stopper off of the old boots when using the new ones. They do not come with that part and if you don't include it in the rear assembly then your rear shock will go right through the top of the shock tower and will ride on the spring alone!!! "

and guess what, pep boys are asses and dont have the old one any more. so where do i get this metal stopper? its really annoying right now because when ever i go over a big pothole or the road dips a lot on that side the top of the strut hits the tower and makes a thumping noise, and if you know Ohio theres a lot of that in the road...

 

1st mistake.. taking a 7 to pep boys.....

now get ready to get a BIG drilling in the butt, cause if you can't get one from a junk yard or on ebay.. you're gonna have to go to the dealer..... OUCH.

but by strut top sittin ABOVE the tower..... I'm a little confused and a bit apprehensive about what you mean..... got a pic????

 

yeah, it will poke through and sit in the shock tower under the speaker.....

 

well ya know how the black part should be flush with the whole? well just raise that about an inch or so...

 

so besides the dealer no one knows anywhere else?
