Is this a good thing? I see alot of RX-7s have backfire. Is this good?

If it is, how do I do this? =]

Yeah they run really rich, most with opened up exhaust will do it, especially ones with large injectors, one of the perks of owning a rotary. Flames are fun

to start take out your cats and put in a straight pipe!! then rev the engine out to the redline and pump the throttle at the redline and let the fun begin!! well idk if that is the way most do it but that is how i have had flames shoot out of my car before!!

Well the first one is easy to do. Get an N/A rx7 put a straight pipe exaust (e.g. racing beat true duals or some rediculous crap) and drive. Having a bigger port makes it a little easier i guess ( i run a blown street port with true duals and get pretty lil flashes)

The second one however may be just a little different as it is a Series 6 (FD) and has twin turbo. I've only ever seen 2 fd's shoot flames like that, 1 is that one that was recently ranked number 1 on youtube (you can find it in the AV section of the forums) and the other one is from some dude in puerto rico on a drag strip but he has some kind of rev limiter that allows him to stop on the gas and not redline while the clutch is in.

oh yeah, major. You should see the ones that come out of my thermal reactor equipped 80 model, big shotgun sounding blasts of flames at night. Really fun, but you have to be careful of old people, you could give them a heart attack Check out some of the FDs on streetfire, insane flames

The FD had a 2-Step controller, at least that's what it sounded like. And you can shoot better flames than the tardo in the first video

the fd either had a 2-step or just an ignition cut rev limiter. both do the same thing, 2-step is just.. programmable lets say.
if you were sitting next to the car in the second video, you would think someone was shooting at you. it is LOUD... and pretty harsh on your turbo. stick to just regular ol flames like in the first vid and your car will last a lot longer, and people won't shoot back at you

lol, it didn't sound too loud to me, but I guess that'd be a good idea. So basically what I have to do to make it shoot fire is just put a straight pipe?

If you read the comments on the FD, it clearly says he is using a 2-step. It is only possible with a standalone EMS, and it is very bad for the turbo. Look up J-rat's posts about his runs at the strip, he has a 2-step as well.

atmospheric BOVs tend to increase the backfiring too

Basically just remove your cats and go with a straight pipe/presilencer and midpipe combo. Having a dual or single muffler doesnt matter, I dont think. Just rev to like 6000 or so a couple times and it should happen eventually. Only problem with this is you might not pass your local emissions test. But thats up to you. Flames/backfire noise = Cops. But dont let that get you down ;D

EDIT: Pre-silencers will still give off flames right? And he main thing is no cats right?

break a couple seals and trash a housing or two and you can blow big flames.... just mash the pedal and wait 30 secs to get to redline and the fun begins when the car is on fire though use sand or dirt not water...water makes oil fire spead
