Back seat question

I know it might have been covered somewhere on here but I was looking to put a backseat (or lack there of) in my 89 gxl that came in some 2nd gen cars I've seen. is it possible and does anyone have any handy? Also for future reference what specific year or car did they come in? And does it add a huge amount of weight? Thanks!

The weight difference would be minimal, I expect.
You do know that those "seats" are merely an elaborate Japanese tax/insurance dodge (really, that's what they are!) and were not designed for humans?

Haha true I've seen some before. Pretty tight fit. Im 6 2. Wouldn't fit back there at all. I just want it for a random person to ride back there for a short distance. And its easier to set stuff on the back seats instead of those compartments. Do they bolt right in? I checked around here, some people say they do and some say they don't.

The collapsing back is bolted in and the bottom cushion or seat is cliped in. When I removed mine the bottom just popped out when you push it back and the back rest is bolted with brackets.

You'll have to drill holes for the brackets if I'm not wrong, unless all the Fc had the holes, even when they didn't come with the back seats, Im sure somebody on here knows.

they don't 'fit' in the vert. before i get flamed there are a couple people who made it work though.
And once again, that's really just tormenting to put someone back there. You may feel bad, but just ditch the third wheel.

What color would you be looking for? I have a maroon set.

You'd have to remove the bins and the bracing. And really, I fit in mine pretty decently. It is a real tight, but very possible to transport shorter individuals.

I have everything you need. Seats, belts, most of the hardware. They are gray. I'm pretty sure there are no tears or stains. I haven't looked at them in a while, but they are taking up space in my storage and would like them gone.
I'll say $300 shipped. unless shipping is just way out there, then we can work something out. I see you live over the mountains.

Thanks guys. I know the bins will have to go. Will I have to cut that carpet though? And does anyone out there know if there are bolt holes for the seat and belts? I could look after this snow storm here. 300$ is a little more than I wanna spend right now. I might shop around a little more. Thanks though.

I put the rear seats in my coupe. you will need the rear hatch floor carpet from a 2+2 seat model, I used my 2 seater carpet and just folded it under itself where the seats are. I did not have to drill holes. the seat belts, 2 (if not all) of the bolts are already in the car. they are all the same bolt size so you can pick some up if they aren't included with your seat hardware. you just unbolt them, slide the seatbelts on them and bolt them back in. the back part of the seat has brackets, the bottom part is a slide in affair. you push down and back to get it in and then let it come up and forward to lock it in. I did not install the hitches for the seat back on my speaker towers, I used my cargo straps and looped them around the seat levers. lol. you will need to cut a slit in your speaker tower carpet and maybe thats where the drilling comes in, I don't know. you might want to get the front carpet from a 2+2 model, metal shows on the vertical part under the seat but I didn't care myself. I like the fact that when the seat is down, it sits perfectly flat with the rest of the hatch floor. I got the seats to cart my 2 year old daughter around. they are pretty useless unless you have short friends. I myself am 5'4" and I could sit back there for maybe a 15 minute trip but its not great.

and bins are a couple bolts, a lot of those round screw clips that you just pry out. its easy and you don't have to cut your carpet. at the back of the bins, unscrew that plastic strip on the carpet and remove the round clips all around the bin area (on the vertical part near the floor and what not). you'll be able to lift the carpet from over the bins and get at the bolts (I think only 4-5 bolts hold it in). the bins are in a plastic case basically, you are taking that whole plastic thing out with both bins in it. its self explanatory when you look at it. I paid 150 for my seats and 150 for shipping from far away. if you can pick them up, do it. the seats only weighed 21 pounds with the shipping box and hardware, they are all foam.

Right on thank you! Did those seats come in leather or only cloth? And you were saying that I'm gonna have to make some kind of latch on the strut towers or the top half of the seat will fall forward all the time?

Backseat bolt right in exception is cutting the carpeting over the rear speaker towers. It works alright for short trips when someone needs a ride, or to hold a 6 pack of soda. You can use you bin carpet, but the folding part of the seat would need carpet. ( Beer would have to be in the hatch in a milk crate. Do to CA law of alcohol being out of drivers reach )

I actually find it more convenient to fold the back seat flat, and just lay down in the back, than to actually try to sit in it

the latches should be included with your hardware. its just a metal u shaped piece that bolts to the speaker tower and you can push the seat back onto them and it locks. basically you can just cut a short slit (1 cut) in the speaker tower carpet for them to poke through. if you do it right, you won't even notice the carpet is cut. like I said, I haven't done my latches yet but I have them. I just loop my cargo straps around the latch release levers to hold the seat up for now. my rear seats are grey leather (on a maroon interior, lol) I am working on going to black interior by vinyl painting most of the plastic and might get the rears re opholstered to black or might leave them grey. only planning on buying true oem black door cards and the plastic panel that is in the door jam. I already did my dash and the paints been holding up great except for the smooth plastic on the glove box button (I didn't sand any of it though).
