back main oil seal keeps blowing....

my car got overheated one time. since then, i have had problems with it idling all weird and stalling. i disconnected the O2 sensor and it helped a little bit. then i noticed that i had an oil leak. oil was coming out of the drain in the transmission. the back main oil seal blew out of position. i put another one in, and the same thing happened not even 30 minutes later. this time my oil light/buzzer comes on. also, i oticed that under my oil cap it gets wet and smells like fuel or something with a greenish yellow color to it. i am stumped. any suggestions?

Are you losing coolant?

it doesnt seem like my coolant is dropping, but something has got to be causing a pressure difference in the block.

Is this a high mileage engine?
Is it smoking more than normal?
When you start the enging cold & remove the radiator cap, is it blowing bubbles?
Is the compression lower on one rotor?
When you said "drain in the transmission" did you mean the bell housing drain?

Several things here are pointing to rebuild time.

Anybody gonna figure out his problem first? What if it's not the engine? (though it probably is)

I've heard of the rear main seal blowing when there is too much oil in the engine, or probably any other time when there's too much pressure in the oil system. Is your oil pressure normal?

oil pressure is good, fuel pressure is good, i also took off all of the emissions. i cant figure out what the problem is. this is my only car and i need to fix it soon before something major goes wrong. it is a high milage engine from the junkyard. i probably need to put new seals on the housings and replace the oil seals with new ones. anybody have any suggestions on where to find very cheap rebuild or seal kits?

I know of no cheap kits. I don't see how anybody gets out without spending around seven hunderd give or take, and that's only if nothing is really, really bad. Look at the Mazdatrix site and the Rotary Aviation sites and the Pineapple sites. I only use stock Mazda parts myself and they ain't cheap.

Right now I've a leak out the bell housing, but it isn't the engine main seal. It's the transmission front shaft seal evidently. It weeps out a small (approx 0.40" hole) weep hole just aft of that LARGE inspeciton hole (about a 1 1/2" hole). Does not come out the large hole at all. Warm weather is coming soon.

When you removed the emmissions stuff, I assume you still have an oil sump vent on the filler neck?

I used the RA kit (realworldsolutions.com) It had everything I needed, including the sealants.
