Back firing after high RPM's, and Alarm Question.

Today drove my car home for the first time from my High School shop.
It's a 1990 GXL and after a stop sign in 1st gear i hit around 7000 RPM... Just as i went to shift i heard a little backfire. Now i believe the exhaust is an older RB aftermarket. It looks like a 3" downpipe through the presilencer and then splits into 2 2.5" oipes through the mufflers. I haven't actually measured the diameter of the exhaust but thats what it looks like.
It has NO Cats on it so imagine thats what the reason is for the back firing but just wondering if this is normal...??

Also another small question..
I won't be driving my car for ~another 2 weeks.
How long can the battery last on my stock S5 GXL alarm?
Is there anyway to lock the car without setting of the alarm? I know if the hatch or hood is open it won't but don't really wanna do that incase it rains.

Thanks!

Usually when i'm on the freeway and i'm in 4th gear pull to about 5.5k and then shift to 5th and let off i get some flames out, i think i got an older rb system too, but i have a gutted cat.

When I had the stock alarm and I locked the doors from the outside it set the alarm. Well, the alarm light would come on at least

If your car is going to sit for 2 weeks and you don't care about the alarm being on, why not just unhook the battery?

Well i can lock the passenger side door without arming the alarm but it won't let me on the drivers side.
Possably broken or something, i dunno...

I would unhook the battery except i have no tools... haha...
The battery won't die after sitting for 2 weeks with the alarm on will it?

Also don't you guys ever get annoyed with the back fireing?
Just be cruising along... rev it up a bit and then BOOM...
I mean what do the girls say that are riding in your car? haha

annoyed? Never I like being able to make my car back fire on demand. Works good when trying to scare the poeple next to you.

My girl usally looks in the mirror and see if fire came out.

It works the best when people tailgate you actually! I did it 3 times once on the freeway when these ricers were tailgating me, muahaha.

Once mine's running I'll have to look & see if I'm throwing flames - getting rid of all the cats, putting in Racing Beat stuff.

As for girls, if it's someone in my car who would likely object to backfires, I'm driving gently enough that I don't really get any popping, or if I do it's minor.

If I were to have someone in my car who didn't mind being in a car that was driven hard, I doubt they'd mind a few backfires, especially if there was flame associated.

Hehe.. Guess i will have to drive her a little more and see how things go.

Just one last small queston.
When i start her up, my idle goes straight to ~3000RPM. To get it to come down, i have to tap the gas once and it drops to around ~2000 depending on temperature.
Is this normal or should it idle down by it's self?
My uncles 1988 GX goes to 3000 then comes down by it's self.

That's correct. That's the Automatic Warmup System being itsself. Common wisdom seems to be that this is a Bad Thing. Either tap the gas, or start the car in gear to disable it.

If you let it sit, it will come down on it's own eventually.

well i know that when i go drifting every time i shoot flames out of my exaughst. so i think it is a common occurence with fc's. i also have just a straight pipe and a glass pack all the way to the y pipe though.
