BAC valve gasket - silicon ok?? and haynes manual terms?

Hey,
I've read that using silicon for the BAC valve gasket is ok. Has anyone actually used silicon before for it and had good results, or has it leaked? I asked mazda for a replacement gasket and they said that part is obsolete, so that sucks, and i can get gasket maker from autobarn it'll just take a little while for them to order it in. So what do people think?

Also, is the haynes manual term for the o2 sensor the atmospheric pressure sensor? If not, what it is?

Thanks, Dan.

If you use silicone gasket maker make sure it's "oxygen sensor safe", any excess that you might gum up under the mating surface that gets sucked in will go through the system.

Otherwise, you've got a mountain out of a molehill. If you assemble it and it leaks, take it off, and cut out a gasket yourself from an old cereal box lid or something. It's thicker than paper and generally the exact same material other OEM gaskets are made of (with the exception of bigger manifold gaskets which have been replaced with re-useable steel). Cardboard works just fine, everytime.

I used silicone gasket maker when I cleaned my BAC, and I have yet to have any problems with it.

cool, thanks guys.
I think i'll just buy some silicon gasket maker and use that, as the silicon i've got now is 'auto silicon' which is probably just for little patch ups. Really just cereal box cardboard is fine? Lol. Is there any chance of the old gasket being fit enough to re-use?

I used a piece of gasket meterail and some silicon, works great.

And, it is possible that the old gasket could be used. Its probably best to just replace it.

How does a boost/vacuum leak mean death to your car?

Two totally different things. The names are a bit of a clue...
