BAC for smog?...

do you need a BAC to pass emmision/smog in cali ?... and what dose a BAC do?

No,

the BAC simply stabilizes idle at starting and when there is a load on the motor

so is it good to block it off or not? im probly going to have a/c and a nice system so is that enough load to affect idle without the bac?

the AC will affect it some, not sure how much. I never run it. If you are going to run a nice system, consider some caps.

The BAC (depending on series) can be needed to stabilize the idle when rear defrost, headlights, power steering, foglights, A/C and cold starting are on.

So if you can be without any of those things, by all means you can take it off (but frankly I don't see the point on doing that with the stock ECU still in the car).

Sorry to dig up an older thread, but I'm doing my NA->Turbo within the next weekend or two. The UIM I have, already has the BAC blocked off.

Now normally on one of my NA cars, if I pull the hose off of the underside of the intake tunnel(that goes to BAC), the car immediately dies.

If I were to disconnect the BAC completely, then remove that hose, does the car still die? Basically, I'm asking, how does the car keep idle if no BAC exists?

You'd have to cap off the large vac line as well as use a plate over the BAC mounting hole
