Have a friend start the car while you are under the hood and then you can keep it running by pulling the throttle cable.

Do a search with BAC and you'll find hundreds of threads about this topic. There's procedure you can follow to get your car to idle and run right with the BAC. I rendered mine useless and blocked it off. My car runs and idles perfectly, finally.

The correct idle adjustment procedure is covered in the FSM.

The BAC is not need for the car to operate, it's duty is to bump up the idle a bit when you turn on the accessories, ie A/C, headlights, blower motor, etc. My car is not driven everyday nor in the winter, so it's not really an inconvenience for me to not have it on there. I have power steering but the A/C was removed by the PO. The idle drops 50-100 RPM when turning the wheel from lock to lock while not moving.
I bought the block off plate from K2RD and ran the coolant line from the top of the rear iron housing to the nipple of the back side of the water pump housing. It took a bit of patience to set the idle, calibrate the TPS, and adjust the idle mix screw but it was worth it IMO.
