I used one for a while. I did some research first to satisfy my piece of mind. I questioned how safe it was to have my child in the front seat and why is it recommended for the child to be in the back seat. The main reason for the child in the back seat is to move it away from the airbags. Obviously they can hurt a small child. Also with putting the child in the middle of the back seat there is more space between the child and the side of the car. This is what I came up with.

i think its the law that a child has to be strapped in the back facing the back for safety reasons.

I have a 7 month old daughter and she frequently rides in the front of my car. The reason it is recomended to have the child in the back is for the above mentioned reasons, (airbag and ample space in the event of a collision.) I see it like this. I have no air-bag. And my driving skill is great enough to avoid a collision altogether, however, I find my self excercising the utmost care and precision whilst my little girl is with me. Also, to ensure this would not prove to be a ticketable offense, I phoned the Highway Patrol in my state and they advised me this is legal in every aspect. My only concern is that the lap belt isn't a straight-across shot. It goes over and forward. But I have found that the seat mounts securely, and Olivia (my daughter) enjoys the view, as well as the purr from the rotors.

No. There is now law restricting the use of your front seat.

Do not put anyting you don't want hit hard next to an air bag (that includes me). No airbags in any of my cars thankyou!

That law does not apply to cars with only 2 seats.

Could be a state thing. In MI and in kansas the car seats were legal in the front seat. Found out recently that in Michigan for newborns they don't have to be in the car seat if their "needs are being attended to". Being fed or such. Wish I would have known that when My kids were babies.

I have an Evenflo Discovery. The kit comes with a rear-facing car seat. A base that installs in the car(I leave this in our SUV). And the seat also attaches to the included Stroller. The car seat does have built in slots to strap it in without having the base. I highly recomend this setup. Cleans real easy too, which is a plus. My daughter is 19 lbs now, and still fits fine. You wont need another seat until its time for the front facing.

Also to those family mided individuals who like the Rx-8, it has a factory optional child seat for the rear. I think its front facing though. Pics are on the rx-8 forum.

even tho this thread is dead i just had another question about baby seats in 7s....is it possible to modify the back (FC) since its nice and flat and make it fit a single baby seat? Anyone do that or think about it? Like how people modify the back and carve it out to fit in subs/amps and etc....could the same theory apply to baby seats?

I thought about it, but then I realized that I love my kid more than my Kickers...and bought a 4 door to drive when my wife and kid are with me.

Id like to add another question to the picture here. If you got a back seat from a 2+2 or bought one somewhere is there a safe way to put a baby seat into the back seat for these cars or is that a no no? I dont have a kid or anything im just trying to plan a little for the future I was planning to buy a coupe pretty soon and buy a back seat off ebay or something.

ya thts more reasonable but i dont ahve the funds to do that right now and even if i sold the 7...i wouldnt get more than 6.5gs for it...and that cannot buy me a reasonable 4dr...so im thinking of just keepin the 7 and modify it to suit the baby's needs.
