AWS lol

So we all know the 3k Accelerated Warmup that kicks on when we start our cars after long periods of inactivity.. Well, I always thought the point of that is just what it says, to accelerate the warmup process. Odd thing, I noticed my car doesnt do the AWS in cold weather...just starts and lays at 1.5k lol.

probably starting with the shifter in gear, and the clutch in.

AWS is bypassed if you start in anything but neutral on the shifter

It only works if the water temp is b/t 59F and 95F degrees and the transmission is in neutral. That is written in the FSM.

There is about a million (slight exageration) write ups on how to remove it all together... I am too lazy to do it myself... I just barely tap the gas pedal... It will calm down after that...

so your car is an auto? hmm. i have like no time to put it in a gear so it wont. the instant i turn the key and it starts... it shoots up to 3k rpms. then will walk down the tac about 5 minutes later to a smooth idle. ill do some research and figure out something. i heard about blocking off the BAC valve but id like to hold an idle rolling down windows, turning on lights, etc. lol.

You dont have to put it in gear... Just start the car... The RPM's will begin to climb (quickly)... Tap the gas... It will stop in its tracks and drop to 1200 or so...

C.A.R. i was getting off work tonight and my car had been sitting in the cold for about 5 hours... i remembered what you had said about tapping the gas and when i started it up... it shot to 3k rpms. sure enough when i tapped the gas it dropped down to a very nice idle and i sat to let it warm up before i drove away. thanks for the tip man. later.

Huh, mine only does it for like 10 to 20 seconds. Mine also goes up to 4 or4.5k. All I have to do is put it a gear and it will quit, but I don't mind waiting. It gives me time to light my cigarette. I also live in central Fl so I guess it doesn't need as much time to warm up.
