Question Auxilliary Port Sleeves

Had them recently out to give them a good cleaning and to Install the Pineapple Racing Inserts on my 88. Rob sent me the Inserts alone which I had to Install In the sleeves my self. No big deal, up 'til know ....

When I Installed them, I had both of the sleeves side opening facing AWAY from the CENTER of the motor. That way, when you contract the Actuator, the port opening on the side of the sleeve faces toward the center line of the motor. I hope I Installed them right.

I make this a big deal b'c I am not really sure which way I Installed the pins. Also, with my Hi-Flow Exhaust I am running know, they are definetly not OPENING. I do plan however to run them electronically once I overcome this potential hurtle.

Somebody must have some thoughts on this. Quite simply, I want to know the position of the 6port sleeves side opening while the actuator rod Is all the way up.

Are the sleeve openings facing the rotor or to the Front/Rear Housings. That Is all I want to know.

Thanks DCmina. It seems SAMPS Is trying to figure It out himself. Still their Is no conclusive answers except with he pins that are Installed at the end of the sleeves.

I have read these posts including the one referred to in the second post.

Why is the direction of the sleeve in question?!

What would make you want to install the sleeves in inaything OTHER than the stock position, they dont work any other way!!!

If I didn't know better, I would swear this is a trick question.

the sleeve opening faces down and AWAY from the rotor.

the fat part of the sleeve pin is placed in the down position and about 8 degrees rotated.

If you refer to the Factory service manual, the position is documented there.

If your sleeves are not working and you installed them facing the right way AND YOU KNOW YOU DID.....

the answer is simple....

when you went to engage the actuator rod fork to the pin..... You MISSED the sleeve pin.

The actuators are turning nothing.

You can tell if this happened by removing the actuators and turning them by hand, you should feel 1 millileter of freeplay then the engagment of the sleeve, you should even feel a slight grinding feeling as it turns.

if not, then remove the rod and try to re inster it at the right ange, maybe a degree or two off of that even.

if it does not engage this way, then you will have to remove the lower intake and reinstall it.

Thats funny. No trick question or answer here. I simply posed this question b'c their was so much gunk n the sleeves I was unable to see the way I pressed them back In. They went In both ways on one of the sleeves.

You know, I am probably spinning my wheels here. I am pretty sure that I Installed them correctly and I am stressing here.

Quite simply, the way I Installed them Is the port sleeve openings are AWAY from the CENTER line of the motor. That way, when the actuators contract, causing the rod to rotate, the sleeve openings know face TOWARD the CENTER line of the motor.

As we all should know, this Improves low end torque and Increase the power band whrn the sleeves open up to allow additonal air creating a "supercharger" effect. Atleast that Is how I Interpret It.

I am probably fighting with myself here. I believe I did Install them correctly. Just want conformation...

Oops just reread my post. They were gunked up Initially. I then cleaned them, Installed the Inserts than put everything back together.

I Installed everything back correctly. As I said before, I think I was tripping out. Parinoia really. Everything Is fine. It took multiple posts to understand that their was no problem to begin with. Pg 138 In the manual depicts It well.

yes.

Of course they do. the open when the actuator moves.

so if thy face the motor when you instll them, then they get turned AWAY (close) when the actuator moves, thats opposite of what they should do.
