Which way do 6th ports face?

I ordered a set of pineapple racing sleeves and was wondering which way to install them. As far as I can tell there is only two ways: the hole facing down and out; or the hole facing up and in. Does anyone know exactly which way they should go. I've also been reading that people plan on disabling the actuators and just installing the sleeves in a set possition. Is there any advantage to doing this? I seem to think that having them work properly with the better sleeves would be the best possible set-up.

THis is what i was going to do....

The way i was going to find out was to have the sleeves in and hooked to the accuating rods on the lower manifold, and kinda have the manifold on the bolts just a little bit and have them on the open position, and then take the manifold and rods off leaving the sleeves left in open position. If the sleeves are free enough that they come out, note their poistion by marking them some how, thats why have the manifold out a little bit, just enought to turn it and see it. I hope this helps man, Good luck

Up and in..

you can verify this by sticking your finger in the aux port itself, and feeling how the port is on the "up and in" part, and not on the "down and out" part..

So when I install them they will be in the closed position because the car will not be running obviously. So if I install them "up and in" does that mean when the actuators moved they will actually be shutting the sleeves? I'm a lil confused. I'm assuming that you need to install the sleeves so that they are shut, and when the actuators turn them they will open. So which way should they be installed? My best guess would be that if the "up and in" position is open, them down "down and out" would be closed and the proper way to install them. This is all dependant on the actuators still being in tact. Am I making sense?

The sleeves have a *pin* that is grasped by the actuator rod. That *pin* on the actuarors has a fat half and a thin half. The fat half is to align with a DOT on the housing. Can you see the mark on the housing????? Does the *pin* and the large and small half make sense when you look at it??? Anyway the actuator is closed then the fat half and the dot on the housing match.

Fat half + Dot = closed

Skinny half + Dot = opened

Thanks!

I just unstuck mine. On the 91, the sleeve opening faces down when closed.

Hey guys-

What all has to be done to install or uninstall the auxillary port sleeves? Must the lower intake manifold be removed? What all does it entail? I'm just curious as I will be ordering and installing the Pineapple racing sleeves soon, and would like to have an idea what I'm doing before I begin.

Thanks,
Derek

You have to remove the lower intake manifold. A lot of vaccum lines, electical connections, etc... Just make sure you mark your lines, to remember what goes where. Get a set of gaskets, and o-rings and grommets for your fuel injectors before you do this. Its not that big of a chore if you've removed all this stuff before, just time consuming. If its your first time, just take your time, and remember where everything goes.

Just a rambling thought here: I can see where a person could screw up installing the pineapples. There is a lot of talk about removing all the obstructions and locktiteing them in, which made me think that if you do that, then you need to be sure the cutout in the sleeve matches the cutout in the housing perfectly or else all the obstructional removal was a wasted effort. Just a thought. Obstructional removal I assumed included the *pin* the actuator rod normaly attaches to, hence no big half vs small half, dot etc

I have decided to keep the air pump and keep the ports functional. Loctite in the engine just doesn't sound good.

Good point Hailers. That's why I'll just install them the "correct" way. I don't think wiring them or changing the setup would prove to be much of an improvement if any. Correct me if I'm wrong.
