aux ports?

i have an 88 gxl, with removed cats and air pump. i have not modified or done anything to the aux. ports. i am told they are useless now that i removed the air pump and cats. is there any modifications that should be done to them? i was playing with them the other day and noticed the front one was seized up, so i sprayed it with wd40. i let it sit for a few hours, but it didn't loosen. so i decided to make it come loose by tapping on it with a hammer and screwdriver.(i know, bad idea) it moves freely now, and sits in the fully extended position at idle, but now my performance is really bad, especially below 3500 rpms. any help is greatly appreciated. i need to get this thing running right again

well.. with the cats removed.. and no air pump.. i dont really know if u can ever make them fully operational... I could be wrong though.. You basically have to decide if you want them open or closed.. If they're open all the time, you lose low end power by gaining high end.. and vice versa..

Basically the cats are what make them work by default..and with the cats removed (if you're running a straightpipe) you can rig them to your airpump (there is a writeup in the archive on this procedure) .. but then you don't have an airpump :P

I'm assuming you're straightpiped.. so If you're really keen on getting them working normally, I don't really know what to tell you, besides maybe buying an actual header.. since you can run a line from the header to the actuators..

im not an expert, thats just my $.02

You can make them work again there are a couple different ways both explained in the Archive. Leaving them open all the time will not give you anymore power top end. But you will lose power on the low end.

is it possible something broke off and got sucked into the motor when i unstuck the aux port? it seems like it sounds good at idle, but when i drive now it feels low on power all through the rpms

There would be nothing to get sucked up in there. You may just have them half open.

what about the forked piece that grabs the bar on the port sleeve? if you banged on the actuator rod hard enough, what are the odds of that breaking?

If its stuck, take the acuater off, pull out the sleeve clean it and reinstall, and make sure it moves freely. Then if you want them to still work follow one of the guides in the archive. That would make it just like stock. I think RB makes an exhaust that still has everything for the Acuators to work.

does the manifold have to come off to remove the sleeves, or just the actuators themselves?

of course the lower intake manifold has to come off to remove the sleeves.
