aux port problems....

can anyone tell me if a vacuum leak would be caused by a torn rubber hose in the aux port system on an S4? Mine is acting like I have a vacuum leak, but all hoses are in place and in good condition, except for the ruber hose that connects the split air pipe to the aux port actuators. It was torn, and the previous owner tried to seal it up with some **** that looks like peanut butter. Needless to say, the sealant did not hold up. I do have the usual hesitation, but recently it is not a hesitation--it surges and bogs down very badly. If I go easy on the gas, I can get up to higher rpms with no problems, but if I put my foot in it, then it just hits a wall between 3500 and 4K, and it does not stop bogging at 4K either. Any ideas?

Sounds like the 3800 rmp hesitation. Do a search for that and see if it matches up.

How does the car idle? It'll idle funny if you have a vacuum leak.

this is not the 3800 hesitation--when it gets to that rpm range, it hits a wall.

And the idle is a problem too. I recently did a clutch job, and the car ran great for the first week or two, and now it does this. It also will not idle at all. At startup, it holds at about 1K for a couple seconds and then it drops off and dies. It is driveable, but whenevr I get to a stoplight I have to keep a litle gas on or it stalls every time. That is why I am asking if this hose would cause a vac leak, because I cannot find anything else that is wrong.

Your aux port hose will not affect idle, unless something really screwy is going on...

Check your TPS...

Clean your grounds...

Performing a quick search will yield tons of info on the latter two...

sounds like a vac problem to me, chances are if one of the hoses going to an aux port is chewed thatn there are others in the same state, i would tug your two uppermost intake manifolds to expose the nest of vac lines in there and check for cracks etc. that is ofcourse after doing your grounds and all the common ****
