Autoshutoff at the gas pump

When I try and fill my tank the gas pump always does that auto shutoff thing every 3 seconds. I tried adjusting the hose to make sure it's snug, but couldn't seem to get it just right. Anyone have any ideas?

That has happened to me a few times at the local chevron. I just go to a new pump and it works fine.

Is your tank venting properly?

Sometimes it just sucks, and nothing is actually wrong.

I have a jet-ski. The ONLY way to fill it if it's in the water is to get some lard-o to stand on the very back of it and tilt the whole thing up some. If you are by yourself you can literally spend 2-3 hours filling the tank.

Yeah, charcoal canister might be plugged up. Thats the vent for the tank. Not sure how those auto shut off things work though.

I know one gas station where the fuel shoots so hard into your tank that the back pressure makes it stop. other than that, i just adjust the angle of the filler and it goes along smoothly, or don't squeeze so hard.

Ok, I'll try these.

Just out of curiousity, and I'll check the fsm later, but how do you clean the charcoal canister? That's the big black round thing up on the passenger side wall, right?

You don't clean it.. You replace it. You can replace it with any ole charcoal canister though.

Actually, you're going the wrong way.

You want to back the nozzle away from the fill neck just a little.

What's happening is that there's too much pressure that's cause the pump to click off.
It might be that there's just too much gas flowing, and the emissions system cannot handle it.

By backing the nozzle away from the fill neck, you allow it to vent easier...

yeah, happens to me sometimes as well, easiest thing i've found is to hold the handle down lower (so that the end of pipe is higher in the gas tank)

works like a charm for me
