Automatic Seat Belt?

What the hell is the point of this thing? I mean, sure the top part is automatic, but then you have to reach for the bottom part and pull it across anyways, so why not just regular seatbelts? Also, with a regular seatbelt its easier to remember just to pull it over, when its just auto, and you forget the bottom part, it probably does more harm than good.

I looked at retrofitting S4 belts about 3 years ago. It was more than I first expected.
If you can find a donor car, go for it.
It's too much to buy new.

the automatic belts SUCK.....here's the thing:

Imagine driving with just the automatic belt on and not the lap belt. You are doing about 45 or so....cruising thru town....then all of a sudden some idiot blows a light and you T-Bone into him. Without the lap belt on, you have now experienced the unforgettable feeling of possibly breaking your neck....that is IF you survive.....there is a reason why they dont use these in new cars today guys--they have KILLED drivers. I used to work Fire Rescue, and I saw an accident once where the guy's head was almost torn off from it.....

PLEASE wear both belts if you have them!!

I second skydivr.. I was actually at fault with my 7. Daydraming I quess, ran a stop sign and was T boned by a pick up. Last I remember was seeing truck in my peripheral vision and saying '****". I woke up, with a closed head injury and severe road lacerations down my entire back. The auto belt was on but not the lap belt.

Car nearly totaled. I am very lucky to be alive. You see I was trown from the car and was told I slid about 70 feet on my back with my head bouncing off the pavement the whole time. Would not have been expelled from the car with the lap belt on.

Like them or not.. wear them!!

Automatic belts were the auto manufacturer's answer to tightening safety regulations in the early 90s. Rather than requiring all cars to have airbags and the extra expense that goes with them, auto makers lobbied for the government to allow automatic safety belts and thus keep costs down.

The only good thing about them is that if they break, Mazda fixes them for free. I've gone through two between my FC and my wife's car. The other one in the FC is currently broken, just haven't made an appointment to get it fixed.

This, is where common sense comes in....everyone SHOULD know that you need both belts. oh, yes and if you t-boned, it'll still **** you up, lap belt or not.

just go off track once with the auto belts, and the dirt thats comes into your car from an off roading experence like that jams them up.

Andrew: Seriously they repair the brocken Auto seat belts!!! FOR FREE. I have a 90' with the passenger side working but the driver side is all messed up. The track I think is damaged and so is the pull wire. I have a dealership in town. If this is true I'll give them a buz.

yeah, but youre missing the point here.....if common sense was the answer then they would never have made those damn automatic belts in the first place. They were made so that people would NOT need to use common sense.....

and YES a wreck will **** you up either way, but I just figured that it would be better to get hurt and survive than to not survive at all.....

but thats just my two cents.....thanks for playing!!
