Automatic ECU vs. Manual ECU

Well, I just want to know what the differences are, and how hard it would be to drop a manual transmission ECU in place of the auto, if there is a difference. It's something that has been a curiosity for me for a while.

What I am thinking is that the rev limiter may be different. N/As go to 8, autos only to 7k.

No difference, save slighty changes in the ignition/fuel/torque curve...not enough to matter in reality, probably matters more to emissions than anything. IMO, there is no difference.

Yep, hailers has it right.

The auto tranny cars have slightly different ECU wiring, and a stand alone tranny computer, but the ECU is the same.

OK, that is kind of what I had figured. Now, is there a rev limiter, and if so, is it different between the autos and the 5 speeds?

The unit that controls the autmatic transmission is called the E-CAT. YOU would have to look at the FSM for the inputs and outputs to the E-CAT to the ECU and the Instrument Cluster. It does use the speedsensor in the Inst Cluster, but I think it's not rpm cut in any fashion. Someday I might look......not today. Probably never.

LOL, I know about the E-CAT and it's seperate operations, I was just wondering if there was any part of it that enforced the 1000 rpm shorter redline, or if it was just something written on the different cluster.

Back to your original question. Just keep the presebt ECU, and dump the E-CAT. Buy a pedal assy with clutch reservoir, manual transmission w/clutch slave cylinder. I think you'll have to do some small wiring work around for the starter circuit, add a clutch switch and then theres probably some wiring that's going to have to happen with the reverse switch/over the top switch and the neutral switch. Throw in a manual driveshaft to get moving.

So your cars engine cuts out at some rpm??? In each gear? How about that. I had no idea that happened, but then again I've never owned a automatic.
