Exclamation auto seatbelts...yay...

1990GXL

so i get in my car tonight just to make a quick trip to the gas station before it closes. Jump in my seatbelt is normal, close the door seat belt starts to slide back into its locked position and then it just stops right in the middle...so i open my door and it moves forward few inches and stops close the door again and it moves back a few inches and stops. So, i start lookin at it for a quick second, and theres a cord (maybe it pulls the seatbelt into place? idk) The cord is hangen out of where it belongs, and the seatbelts not working properly. So, fine **** it whatever, i gotta get the gas station before it closes, drive up there with my half working seat belt.

Now, on the way there I hear a clicking. A not so loud very fast clicking comming from under the pass side dash, cant get it to shut off, mess around with the heater controls thinking maybe something in there is just stuck? notta, dosnt do the trick.

As far as I know(knew) the auto seatbelts had no componets under the dash whatsoever. Am i wrong? Or am I correct? is that just another random wierd problem i got at the exact same time my seatbelt fucked up?

anybody in sac delt with the Mazda dealers about auto seatbelts last time i talked to them about it, they tried to BS me...a lot...

I dont care If I have to fix my own seatbelts better than waiting a few days to get my car back from mazda (since this is my only car) . So those of you who know; How would i fix this problem?

Well I JUST got mine fixed there is a thread on my progress..... I had to go to San Jose after dealing with the Santa Cruz dealers to no avail. There is a recall as you probably know on ALL auto seatbelts that came in the RX 7's, that the dealers MUST fix. They get it written off for free from Mazda North American too. Go into a dealer and go to the service department and have your VIN # ready. They will look it up and it shouldn't be a problem. It took 1 week to order parts and get mine done in San Jose. Completely free of charge, there is nothing they should charge you for so if they do go to another dealer. Good luck.

P.S. For now just pull the seatbelt fuse from under the dash to kill the motor, so it doesn't try to pull back every time you open and shut your door. Use the emergency release to get in and out.

Yeah, I know the recall is out. I just hate the dealers so so much. How long once all the parts were in did it take for them to fix the seatbelts? im hopin its not more than a day or two.

No car is bad for buisness

Wheres the crank to put the seatbelt in the locked/closed position? isnt it right behind the seat on the side panel under the little square? (trying to remember)

I just got mine fixed and if they're already dicking around with you, it may be around an hour or two, but whatever, they can't even charge you labor. 2 tricks help for prompt service. One, go to the mazdausa site and call customer service and tell them a dealer will not fix a fully warranteed problem in compliance with a national safety recall. Give them all the info and make sure they acknowledge there was a recall on your vehicle. Then, give them the name and location of the dealership and the name of person who rejected you. Badabing Badaboom, you should get a call in the next day to set up an appointment. Second, take a picture of A-pillar trim (driver and passenger side) before you have the work done so when they break it, they'll replace it, as the item can still be ordered. That isn't a guarantee if it is already somewhat broken though, because they'll say it was already broken. Make sure you tell them that both sides were malfunctioning so they will replace both sides. Why not, right? It's all free. Getting dealers to do **** for free is better than sex!

btw, the little crank is on the base of the b-pillar right behind your seat. Don't do it too much, though, because the basin will eventually strip out. They replace that part as well when they fix it as the motor and track are both replaced. Bring a magazine and a cup of coffee and if you really wan't to get prompt service, show up for an early morning appointment with doughnuts and they'll bump you ahead of the other cars waiting for service. You'll definitely be in and out in a few hours.
