for background info.
To catch everyone up: Thought car was flooded. Changed spark plugs (which was definately needed) put about an ounce (or less) tranny fluid into the spark plug holes and still no start.
We *trie* to test the coil with a screwdriver. We wrapped the screwdriver with a stripped wire, cranked and tried to touch the other end of the wire (also stripped) to the block (actually alternator bracket, and a couple other places.) We did this while the egi fuse was pulled so as to not put more gas into the engine.
No spark!! We tried the front coil only as to it was easiest to get to, it gets incredibly dark in the canyon, and we turned the lights off to see if we could see the spark (we're working outside, pretty cool out-- 40ish outside.)
Im out of ideas. No spark from the coil.

I just thought of this a couple secs ago..
I bought the spark plugs from Checkers Auto parts, the young kid gave me four of the same type. I didn't think about it at the time. I went back today before install to swap two of the four leading he gave me for trailing. Apparently the kid never heard of a rotary before (considering he asked me if it was a 4cy. I told him yes it needs four plugs. Didnt think about it till I got home that he really didnt have a clue and gave me 2 of the wrong plugs. anyways) I don't have a clue where I put the new plugs in. I'm pretty sure I put them in right. the guy at checkers today labled the new plugs T for trailing. I got home and forgot if it was T for Trailing or T for Top and L for lower. I installed them as T for top and L for lower.
Did I mess up?
Either way there is still no spark from the coil... to my knowledge.
Help, I need to get her running so i can get her to the tranny shop. thanks!!

No, tested Front coil left hand side post. Figured if this didn't work first try it wasn't worth trying again. Besides the shop lights were the only thing keeping me warm from the breeze and we shut them off to see the spark. it was cold and dark :P
you have the plugs right T stands for Trailling and L stands for Leading but T does go on top and L does go on bottom. for the spark it may be bad igniters but check the wire connector to the crank angle sensor. you would get no spark if this is disconnected. good luck
did you try the good old screwdriver in the plug wire boot test. you wont need darkness to see the spark. the crank angle sensor is the round, flat distributer looking thing near the front of the engine just behind the alt. this sends a signal to the igniters(coils) to spark at the right time. it has a white connector that, if not connected, you will get no spark. if you find that you do have spark and you can find someone to help, have someone crank the engine while you pinch off the fuel delivery line with a pair of pliers. as soon as you hear the engine fireing, release the pliers and work the throttle by hand to get and keep it running. this works far better than that 3 step process
Thanks amur for the archived thread, helped alot. And sounded *very familiar*
As for the coils, I guess why I didn't see a spark is because I had the egi fuse pulled which cut the... (crank angle sensor or the coils themselvs?)
I plan early tomorrow at daylight to rip opent he back and d/c the fuel pump. I feel a bit iffy about claming the fuel line, id be afraid of it bursting and adding even more my list of problems.
On a side note, I bought Dextron III (which again checkers said was correct) type of atx fluid for the tranny swap. I got the new B&M stuff which my buddy says works awesome. I also bought 75w50 for the rear dif, figured the best time to do this might be with the tranny out. Also some nice Castol GTX 20w50 and a new oil filter. Do I need a new tranny fluid filter for the tranny swap?
