there is a wiring diagram in the haynes manual but its prety criptic i had to have my dad (electrical engineer) decipher it for me. if you are installing a stereo just keep as much of the wiring outside the stock harness as possible. run a fresh ground/power. run new speaker wires. all you realy need to tie into on the stock harness is the turn on wire and the antena (which you will need a relay because it is a dead=on instead of hot=on) and the dimmer wire if youre feeling ambitious. im sorry i cant remember the colors.

If you don't have a wiring diagram with colours, it's easy to figure out which wires you need with a test light or multimeter. Test them all one at a time, labelling the ones you need as you find them.
* One will have 12V all the time (battery power).
* One will only have 12V when you switch the key to ACC (switched power).
* One will only have 12V when you switch the lights on (illumination).
* One will make the antenna go up if you ground it with the key at ACC.
That's all you need to find. There's no ground wire, as the stock stereo grounded through its bracket. Run new wires for the speakers.

The haynes manual is eassssssy to understand, just bust that out and your good to go, run new speaker wire and bam your done. I actually wired a cd player in last week in my car.

got it in
thanks for the input, i test the wires for the 12v, ign, and ran new wire to all the speakers. found out that the dude before me had done a lousy job and chopped the wires very close to the main (all the wires taped together) chunk of wires. i was messing with dud ends. well i ran new wires for all the six speakers, used a 6.5 adapter i had laying around for the rear. it sounds so much nicer then my 86 that is still using the stock speaker wires. i think i will rewire my 86 this next week since school won't start for me til late january.

Is it bad to leave the antenna grounding to the car to make it go up? The previous owner had this set up this way.. I was putting in a stereo from another car while I wait for my plennum gasket to arrive...
I think the car needs some relay to make it work right since the signal is reversed? (If I understand correctly) For now it just goes up when the key is on ACC as it is grounding to the chassy...
Also how do I access the antenna, the guy put a wing on the car and the antenna got cought on the wing and wont go all the way down. (As soon as the car was in my name I ripped the wing off no worries. but I was trying to figure out how to get access to the antenna to try and make it go all the way down...
Thanks!

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't hurt it to leave it grounded out other then it being up when the cd is running.. but ill put a relay in there too its easy enough...
