how long do I have on my engine?

Well, I just did a compression test on my 87 TII and here are the results!!

front rotor: 95-95-95psi
rear rotor: 65-65-40psi

the car still runs ok, just a rough idle and floods on start up EVERYTIME, so I installed a fuel pump switch for a temeoary fix. I think I have a cracked APEX seal in the rear rotor?

Has any one got away with driving their rx7 with a low compression motor for awhile b4 it dies complelty? I have to save $ for a rebuild and it will be about 6-7 months b4 I have enough money. I'm going to drive it like a GRANDMA for the mean time. the engine only has 84k on it.

I have come to a conclusion that if you let a rotary engine sit for a ample amount of time that it reduces the engine life by atleast half. Any imput on this would help, or similar situations. thanks

That rear rotor looks pretty weak. 6 or 7 months is quite a while, but you should be OK as long as you take it easy. I wouldn't drive it far unless I had to.

Unbolt the turbo and manifold and turn the engine with a socket and breaker bar untill you can see each apex seal and try to see if there are any cracks or missing seals. This will atleast let you know what IS wrong with it. Those are kinda bad numbers as it is but you may be able to run with it for a while if you don't boost on it. On an N/a that could probably last a year or so maybe more. But on the TII its going to be a lot more fragile because of boost. All I can say is good luck RX buddy and save up as much as you can as fast as you can so that you don't increase the cost of the reduild by waiting for a seal to blow and destroy a housing.

Thanks, I figured as much, do you guys think I could pass emissions with those compression #s I know I'm risking blowing the seal and trashing my housings.

I doubt it, your car will be running richer than normal (engine isn't compressing and burning all of the fuel). These cars are hard to pass sometimes even with good compression.

anything under 90-85 needs rebuilding.

Rebuild it now, before you loose a seal and double the rebuild cost

Check with Kevin at Rotary Ressurrection, I think his prices start at ~$1000.

its a catch 22, I mean what does a man do in this situation? it look like it will be around $2300.00 for a rebuild. THATS ALOT OF MONEY,. I don't want to risk rebuilding it myself and Fing it up. I'll have to get a 2nd jpb just to save up money for a rebuild. DAMN these cars. I mean I took the beat care of it too. I brought it back from the dead and it treats me like this. I have 10k in to the dam thing now it is worth a donut . grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
