Attn everyone with a TII please!!!!!!!
The time has come. I got to talk to that guy about selling his Turbo II. Its a 1987 RX7 turbo 5 speed. I haven't driven it yet but I did look at it and it DID START . It has been sitting for months. It has the flooding problem to where if you shut it off after starting it for a couple mins it wont start back up. But we did get it started. Anyways it has 87,000 miles on it. It seemed to run great. Sounded nice there was a pretty big puff of light blue smoke come out when we got it started. The driver side window went up so far and then you had to push it the rest of the way up. Power sun roof, windows, and manual seat and locks. One fog light didn't turn on. And it could use a new paint job. It had just a few dints on the hood and thats about it. Other than that the car was nice. So what do you guys think? He asked me what I thought would be a fair price and I told him I would think around $3,000 for it. Should I go for it guys? I will be selling my car for $7,000 so I will have $4,000 to fix it up......What should I do?

Check the compression on it first.
The fact that it doesn't start when it's warm, indicates a blown seal.
If it is blown, offer him 2k and buy it. Then put a J-Spec ($1000) in it.
You will have a fast little car then!

Mabye it's different here than where you're from, but I'd pay no more than $3000 for it. $2500 is actually a good price. That's what I paid for mine and it only had 10k miles on the rebuilt engine and turbo.
That's not always true. I onwned two 10th AE's and they both had a hot start problem. My current AE has the Tri-Point Hot Start Assist system, (just a fuel pump cutoff switch). 87k may not be too far from a rebuild though...

I picked my TII up for 3k and it had a brand new hayes ported and rebuilt motor. Plus it has light flywheel, DP, IT, turbo timer and so on. I needed paint and a few minor things, but overall it ran great. If the motor is in iffy condition, and the body is in bad condition, you will end up spending your whole 4k extra on getting it running and looking good. There are better deals out there, just be patient. If the motor and turbos are in good shape buy it for umm 2500 and slap some paint on it. OK Im done

Blue book, black book, yellow book, they don't mean ****, unless you are a car wholesaler. This is place to find what it is worth. I would see what TurboIIRudeBoy is talking about. I would do yourself a favor and go with an 89-91 TII. You won't regret it, otherwise. Oh, by the way don't get in a hurry and don't buy **** without a compression check.
REPEAT, DON'T BUY **** WITHOUT A COMPRESSION CHECK!

The main reason bluebook is useless is people want near emaculent and will pay a premium for it. You pay less overall in restoration and repairs this way - especially if it has low engine miles.

Much like any other tool, the Blue Book is much more effective if you know how to use it.

I paid $1900 for my 88 T2, with 111k, AC cold, pw sunroof & everything works, New brakes, plugs & clutch. Runs fine but my boost is still lacking some, thats the main reason I talked him down so far. It also had some exhaust leaks and today (I hope) I put on my new single custom from my MP back. The body isn't as clean as my 87 T2 was, but after some good ole TLC it is back looking pretty sweet! The leather interior is almost perfect except for a hole in the drivers side seat. Oh, and it didn't have a stereo in it, so I needed to put one in. I paid $3900 for my near flawless 87 T2, the PW sunroof was the only thing not working on it.
Good luck & look for one that runs good, yes, get the compression checked and get GOOD VALUE!

Man you people got some good deals. I paid 2,400 for my 87 TII. The paint isnt that great, and when I bought it it had been sitting for a year and the interior was taken apart. It also had low compression and needed a new turbo, but the atf trick brought it back to life. It has 90 on each rotor and runs great so you never know.
