You need a check valve after the BOV. This one is installed on the wrong side but you get the idea. You can find one in the plumbing section of your local Home Depot.

I open-vented my BOV about 2 weeks ago. All that I have to say is...don't expect much. It isn't going to be as loud as you're hoping!!! Trust me, I'm just gonna buy a Blitz SS BOV as soon as possible!

To be honest I am yet to do this to my car. I have however seen it done. The volume of the whoosh depends on a couple things I think. The first is the amount of boost you have, the more boost the louder the woosh. Second the type of check valve you buy, the brass one does not make as loud of a sound as a plastic one I have heard. Third, is were you place the valve, if you put it up by the firewall it will be louder than if it's down in the engine bay somewhere. Regardless, no the sound will not be as dramatic as a Blitz, or Greddy or something like that but then again it only cost you $5 bucks instead of $200.
