Atkins rebuild video
Alright I ordered the Atkins rebuild video and it went over every possible thing to rebuild a 13b but is it really that important to measure everything. How do you guys usually rebuild your motors. And what is done when removing the engine harness is it cut or does it unplug from the computer or where ever.
Thanks

You unplug the engine harness... a word of advice becouse we just did the engine swap.. get some masking tape and label every connector.. i mean to where it goes. when you put the motor back together it will be alot easier..
Also it is very important to measure the parts. becouse if the tolerances arent correct the motor parts will fail prematurly or they ccould work incorrectly.

I think it's more about common sense than measurements. If there is any gouges in the parts .. replace them, if you can catch a nail on it .. it's to deep. Replace your oil pump & chain no matter what (or I would) clean everything & do a thourough visual inspection ... measure what you can, and measure everything that calls for a feeler guage (those are cheap, everyone should have one) but I would not worry about getting a dial guage and all those specialized measurement tools ... not worth the money for 1 or 2 rebuilds. just use your head .. and it will come out okay. And if somthing is questionable you better replace it .. or put a photo up here for advise. I rebuilt my motor myself & used the Atkins Video & FSM .. it was pretty easy .. and so far so good, 800 miles or so into it.
Also, if you decide to do it yourself .. make sure you do all the internal mods. Do a seach for things you should do during a rebuild. I.E. thermal pelet bypass, Maybe OPR upgrade .. Etc.

It is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE to measure everything accordingly. If not then you won't know what parts are already worn past the limit (do you know what .01 of an inch looks like by eyeballing it, if not then how can you tell when the measurement is even smaller). Not to mention it's much better to blueprint an engine so that you gain maximum power/efficiency and longevity than to just throw it together and have it work "better" than before you rebuilt it. It doesn't take that much more time to measure the parts, and it'll be a lot easier since there's very little room for error. When something is wrong you'll know it's not with the parts or how they're put together. Think about it this way...if you just hand tighten an engine and transmission assembly instead of using a torque wrench and doing it exactly, what's the likely hood of those parts coming apart...now you tell me how important it is when you're engine dies because something hit something else or was too far away because you didn't feel like measuring. Pay the money and get the parts needed to measure.
